This study explored personality and motivational traits related to teleworker performance and satisfaction, including sociability, need for achievement and autonomy, diligence and organisation. Situational factors were also compared between teleworkers and non-teleworkers, such as number of children, job autonomy and job complexity. Implications for research and practice are discussed.

Abstract Internal Corporate Venturing (ICV) goals of family firms are analyzed based on a qualitative study of six family businesses. Semi structured interviews with the owners and managers of the six family firms provide in-depth details on the goals for 24 internal ventures. Data analysis of transcribed interviews identifies both within-case and across-case themes that allow for development of 10 testable propositions surrounding family firm venturing goals. The analysis suggests that family firm venturing goals are consistent with traditional financial business venturing goals, but that family firms also adopt many non-financial venturing goals.

Corporate venturing in family firms is analysed through a strategic management process framework. Integrating the family firm and corporate venturing literatures within the framework suggests a number of areas where the unique characteristics of family firms might influence the adoption of corporate venturing. Potential research questions surrounding these areas are presented and future research directions are discussed.

We draw on quantum physics ideas of “entanglement” and “indeterminism” to introduce and develop “Quantum Sustainable Organizing Theory” (QSOT). Quantum entanglement points to the interconnectedness of matter in ways that defy Newtonian physics and commonsense assumptions that underlay conventional organizing theory. Quantum indeterminism suggests that uncertainty is an inherent feature of reality and not simply a lack of information that impedes rational decision making. Taken together, these quantum ideas challenge the assumptions of conventional organizational theorizing about the boundaries between a firm and its natural and social environment, the importance of self-interested individualism and (sociomaterial) financial measures of performance, the emphasis on competitiveness, and the hallmarks of rational theory and practice. We discuss implications for sustainable organizing in particular and for organization theory more generally.

Transaction cost economics (TCE) has fast become one of the most influential theories within the social sciences (Carroll & Teece, 1999; Carter & Hodgson, 2006). Its applications in the international business (IB) context have shown its relevance not only to explaining and predicting a wide variety of IB phenomena, including, inter alia, the existence of multinational enterprises (MNEs) (Buckley & Casson, 1976; Rugman, 1980; Teece, 1981; Hennart, 1982), MNE foreign entry mode decisions, and interactions with external parties (Beamish & Banks, 1987; Hennart, 1988; Buckley & Casson, 1998a; Chen, 2005), but also to MNE internal governance choices (Hennart, 1993; Verbeke & Kenworthy, 2008).
