The study of urban poverty using high resolution satellite imagery and environmental data set has been widely used in many countries since early year 2000 to estimate, detect and identify the poor areas. By using remote sensing approach the identification of poor area can be pre-predicted without intensively to go to the ground. Due to high life expenses at urban area in Malaysia recently, the investigation of urban poverty in dense areas becomes much important especially in identifying the squatter and low cost houses which are expected to be settlement for people who are at low level income. This paper is going to discuss approaches being used in our pilot study to determine urban poverty areas which identified by correlation studies on high resolution IKONOS satellite imagery. The expected end result will be verified through multiple analyses via Remote Sensing and statistical approach.

The alternative technique of acquiring shoreline data using satellite images or from aerial photos has renowned as a fast and less time consuming process as compared to the conventional method of land surveying technique at the sea shore, especially when covering large and rugged area. This paper discussing the process of extracting shoreline data from high resolution satellite image using various image classification method. The aim of the study is to utilize remote sensing application in determining shoreline boundaries by conducting several image classification at the chosen study area. In order to obtain better accuracy of the shoreline position, image selection has been made prior to the high water during high tide of the study area. The selected image was then went through several processes like geo-referencing, ortho-rectification, image sub-setting, masking off the cloud and shadows as to ensure the image is corrected from error. Then, various semi-automatic methods like raster colour slice, band ratio, Iterative Self-Organizing Data Analysis (ISODATA) and Mahalanobis distance was applied to extract the shoreline data. From the analysis, only shoreline result which shown smooth separation between the edge of vegetation line boundary and the sea shore is considered to be best approximation to the highest water mark. Among all of the tested methods, qualitatively the shoreline data extracted using Mahalanobis distance has shown better performance in delineating the shoreline.

Flooding is an unavoidable disaster. However, the impact and the risk to be affected by flooding can be reduced. Recently, floodplain modeling known as new method applied in river engineering modeling and has been used by many researchers in determining flood prone area, The objective of this research is to explore the integration of Geographic Information System (GIS) and hydraulic simulation model, Hydrologic Engineering Centers River Analysis System (HEC RAS) in determining the steady flow simulation model and possibility flooding areas for Bandar Segamat Johor. The methodology of this research is divided into 5 stages, include study area identification, data acquisition, data processing (spatial data generation), data processing (simulation), result and analysis. In this research, steady flow for Segamat River and Kapeh River was simulated. Flood map was produced by integrating both GIS and HEC RAS analysis. The results suggest that the integration of HEC RAS and GIS analysis can lead to a better visualization for flood mapping to be used by the society and considered to be helpful for future development.

The emergence of spatial data updating can be acquired from Unmanned Aerial Imagery Capturing System (UAiCs) photogrammetry that is low cost but could represent data at large scale. This can be achieved with a proper UAiCs flight planning which include pre-preparation or site investigation particularly in knowing the characteristic of the topography and meteorological condition of the area to be surveyed. Nowadays flight planning can be designed easily in the computer and in this study Mission Planner software was used. The study area emphasize on the flood prone area which surrounded by meandering river and canal. The ability of the UAiCs to fly at low altitude will give an advantage to produce better ground resolution up to centimetre level which hope can discriminate the higher and lower ground for the betterment of flood simulation and analysis. The result from the flight path analysis shows that for the 100 m, 200 m and 300 m flying altitude, the ground resolution increase from ±3 cm to ±10 cm but the flight time reduce from around 2 hours to less than 1 hour.

For many years, quarrying activities that involves the extraction of rocks and minerals have been the primary industry in Malaysia and many countries worldwide Although the industry is an important part of the countrys economy, it is without on site and off site side effects through its blasting, excavation, crushing, screening, stockpiling and transport of aggregate activities This project is to identify environmental impacts surrounding quarry area in term of land use changes, slope monitoring and vegetation health analysis using method of photogrammetry and remote sensing. The method made it possible to reduce environmental impacts through monitoring activity and making analysis to investigate the changes in the quarry area and its surrounding for both short term and long term effect.

The research is mainly focus on modeling of non-topographic objects based on Photogrammetry field of studies. By using 3D printing technology that is widely used nowadays, a real object could be reproduced again exactly as it is through post processing of object model formed by RGB-D camera and printing out of the post-processed file using 3D printer. In this project, a cylinder box and half part of human body are chosen for the printing purpose to represent simple and complex object respectively. Reconstruct me software was used to scan the object while the Meshmixer software was applied in the post-processing of the formed models. Distances of 0.8m, 1.0m and 1.5m were selected to scan both objects and the scanned model was saved in Stereolithography (STL) file format. Then, the formed models was uploaded in Meshmixer to filter unnecessary features like noise and unfilled holes. The cleaned model was also saved in STL file format to enable it to be uploaded in XYZ Ware software before it can be printed in da Vinci 1.0 3D printer. From this study, it was found that the methodology used can be produced the exact model of the chosen objects in three-dimensional copies with the reduced scale. In term of analysis, the studies show that the time acquired to form the 3D model increases significantly between non-complex and complex object. In conclusion, the concept of 3D printing is much related to the field of Photogrammetry especially in generating the 3D model because it involve the use of image photos, triangulation network and contouring of the object models.
