One solution of a system for data acquisition and storage from the digital television transport stream and its exposure to the clients

Stefan Pijetlovic; Nenad M. Jovanovic; Nevena Jovanov; Stanislav Ocovaj

This paper describes a system which gathers the data from the digital television transport stream, then stores all the valuable information in the database on the server and afterwards hands out this and any additional information from the internet to the clients. With this system it is now possible to improve the efficiency of the acquisition and enhance the user experience by providing additional information which is not present in the stream itself. Using this information, new features are now available such as user profiling and content recommendation based on the history of events watched and some client habits such as time based patterns.

In-vehicle infotainment system for android OS: User experience challenges and a proposal

Ksenija Udovicic; Nenad M. Jovanovic; Milan Z. Bjelica

Safety issues are major part of any vehicle design, which has not bypassed user interface for In-Vehicle Infotainment (IVI) system. Complex menus with hard to sense buttons can take a drivers focus off the road. We discussed possible design challenges through safety issues. With pilot study we illustrated potential design disadvantage through simple analysis of eye focus and proposed a car interface design for IVI with one or two touches and swipes in an easy-to-find-spot.

One proposal of usage of DLNA services on DTV devices and implementation on Android based DTV platform

Nenad M. Jovanovic; Milos Milanovic; Veljko Ilkic; Milan S. Savic

This paper presents our proposal for usage of DLNA services on DTV platforms as well as their implementation aspects on an Android based DTV platform. With the constant increase of processing power on embedded systems, integration of additional, more demanding services, such as DLNA, is possible without degradation of performance of the basic DTV functionalities. The focus of this paper is on utilization of DLNA standard for appropriate usage on modern DTV platforms as well as different implementations on an Android based DTV platform.

One solution of a cloud based DTV extended data provider

Nenad M. Jovanovic; Violeta Vukobrat; Helena Peic Tukuljac; Ivan Velikic

Digital television has been a standard way of distributing television content for some time now. Even though digital television standards (e.g. DVB) usually provide some mechanisms for the distribution of metadata related to the broadcasted content (e.g. Electronic Program Guide, teletext, HbbTV, etc.), this information is mostly incomplete, missing and difficult to manage. In this paper, we describe a cloud based solution that copes with these problems by expanding the basic DTV metadata obtained from the broadcasters with content freely available on the internet and by employing a recommendation engine to filter and sort the content before delivering it to the users. For this purpose, we developed an acquisition system for acquiring base DTV metadata, a search engine for base metadata expansion and a simple recommendation engine for per-user content selection.

Porting and integration of functionality required by HbbTV standard on Android based DTV platform

Milena Milosevic; Stanislava Markovic; Nenad M. Jovanovic; Boris Mlikota; Milos Balac

This paper presents our experience in porting and integration of functionality required by the HbbTV standard on Android based DTV platform. HbbTV functionality was originally implemented on the Linux operating system, and this paper presents all the necessary modifications made to the HbbTV software stack, modification made to the Android operating system and extension of existing DTV functionality on Android OS.

One solution for rendering translucent 2D UI elements in 3D space

Nenad M. Jovanovic; Goran Stupar; Nikola Teslic; Milan Z. Bjelica

This paper describes a rendering system designed to render translucent 2D UI elements (e.g. images and text) in 3D space. Significant part of the implemented system and algorithm is dedicated to rendering of composite 2D elements consisting of multiple simple elements in the same plane in 3D space. The described approach was incorporated in a UI development framework which is used by several real world applications developed for consumer electronics devices.

Implementation of asynchronous TV metadata fetching for seamless graphical user interface

Nenad M. Jovanovic; Dejan Nad; Nevena Jovanov; Gordana Velikic

Graphical User Interface is the easiest communication approach between an application and a user. Thus, it is important to promptly react to users requests. In this paper we describe an implemented concept to improve the Graphical User Interface responsiveness in embedded environment. We also describe its subsequent evolution of the implementation triggered by its real world applications.

Proposal for a concept of recommending HbbTV applications and their content to users

Nenad M. Jovanovic; Milena Milosevic; Nikola Teslic; Tomislav Maruna

HbbTV is a rising standard, designed to introduce interactivity into digital television. With the standards expanding adoption, there are more and more HbbTV applications present, and consequently, more and more content is distributed to the end users through the HbbTV applications. This paper describes a proposal for a concept of recommending HbbTV applications, as well as recommending the HbbTV content itself, in order to help users discover it and cope with its quantity.

Cloud-based framework for collecting DTV data related information from the Internet

Nenad M. Jovanovic; Violeta Vukobrat; Stefan Pijetlovic; Velibor Mihic

In this paper we propose a solution and describe one implementation of a cloud-based framework for collecting meta-data and multimedia content from the Internet related to the DTV data. The aim of the proposed solution is to acquire diverse additional information and content from various sources on the Internet and prepare them to best suit the end-users. The focus of the paper is on the design of a flexible system that provides the means for expansion and easy adaptation.
