Web services enable the integration of applications in a Web environment. Due to an increased automation of Web service interoperation, intelligent Web services are recommended, such as semantic Web services. In this paper, we first introduce Web services and the concept of intelligent Web services. We then propose an agent-based Web service middleware. We focus on the intelligent Web services platform with existing standards instead of proposing other standards. In particular, we present an agent approach to dynamic Web services, which invokes access points of UDDI registry automatically and returns execution results for Web services. The proposed approach is used to build experimental solutions involving intelligent Web service systems. Finally, we give an example to illustrate a typical scenario in which consumers search Web services using our Web services middleware.

This paper presents a multimedia service platform to express multisensory media effects for heterogeneous appliances and a home server in the ubiquitous home networks. The platform is equipped with an adaptation technology to process multimedia service based on a home server. The proposed adaptation consists of a multimedia parser, analyzer, device profile gatherer, device selector and a media player. The multisensory adaptation communicates with service modules for integrating the control of various home appliances. The multimedia service supports not only multimedia contents subscriptions but also presents additional sensory effects to the high quality multimedia services for various different homes via the adaptation.

Recently, various smart devices are interconnected within the home network environment and such smart home support collaborations between those devices based on the Web of Things (WoT). The evolving concept of the WoT in the smart home network not only provide a simply control by users either within or outside of the home, but requires to support ubiquitous accessibility and sharing resources. Current smart home users are expanding their activities simply from ones dwelling environment to the social network and such phenomenon requires a new way of approaches to support Web of Things available. In the conventional smart home environment, the interoperability issues including UPnP and DLNA and the media sharing were mainly focused regarding the approaches for accessing heterogeneous home devices. The recent changes and requirements are based on the collaboration services based on the social network information for searching and interoperating various objects. The paper introduce a concept and applications of “Social web of Things” (SoT) for supporting device to device collaborative services based on the social relationship information of users for controlling and sharing the web based objects in the home network environment.

This paper proposes user preference based device mapping scheme for multisensory media effects in a ubiquitous home media system. In order to select the most effective device among devices having similar effect properties, users set their priority in advance. As we process neodata in ne-media, which have metadata for multisensory effect, a device is chosen based on user preference and is controlled at the designated time. This enables a dynamic device mapping and gives a user customized service with different media devices even for the same effect.

Web of Things (WoT) applications exploit Web-enabled sensors, data, and even virtual resources like social activities. Many complicate skills have given the users automatic suggestions based on their context. In this paper, we propose a simple way for WoT applications using user-defined rules. A rule-based modeling tool provides graphical user interface to create and verify the rules. The tool automatically generates the source code and invokes the application with the offered execution pattern. The tool gives the user the initiative of utilizing things and data and realizes the autonomous capabilities.
