Non-pressure adhesion of a new adhesive restorative resin was investigated employing a new tensile test. The material was adhesive to both enamel and dentin as well as to carious dentin and showed strong adhesion to all substrates tested. Etching further increased the adhesion even to dentin.

Penetration of amalgam elements into dentin was investigated by electron probe microanalysis of human and dog teeth. Penetration was observed with tin and zinc, but not with mercury or silver; it was observed only in the softened dentin. The elements were accumulated mainly in the second decalcified layer of dentin.

The application of GK-101 to carious dentin softens the first or outer layer which contains denatured collagen. The second or inner layer of carious dentin, containing normal collagen fibers, is unaffected. The pulps of dog teeth were not affected by applying the solution to freshly prepared sound dentin.

Z inc phosphate cement has been used as a standard luting agent for cast restorations for many years. The retentive force of the cement measured 13% surface adhesion and 87% interlocking force when analyzed by Fusayama et al.’ with cylindric inlays. Polycarboxylate cement proved to be superior to zinc phosphate cement in adhesion to tooth substances and in pulpal compatibility.’ The technical and chemical properties of this type of cement were improved by the development of a water-settable cement.3 A new type of polycarboxylate cement (HY Bond Carbocement, Shofu Dental Mfg. Co., Kyoto, Japan) was recently developed by adding HY agent, a cariespreventing agent that contains zinc fluoride, strontium fluoride, tannic acid, and other components prescribed by Yamaga.4 When tested by Yamada et a1.,5 the addition of the HY agent did not significantly alter the compressive strength, diametral tensile strength, or film thickness, but it slightly decreased disintegration in lactic acid. The three above-mentioned types of cements (Table I) were compared for surface adhesion to tooth substances and dental casting alloys, as well as retentive force of cemented restorations.

The purpose of this paper is to present an outline of students practice of interviewing simulated patients at behavioral science in dentistry. This practice was initiated as part of a newly introduced behavioral science course at our school of dentistry, to enable students to acquire communication skills, comprehensive understanding, and a proper attitude vis-à-vis patients. Students as well as instructors involved in the practice evaluated it as highly relevant for clinical education. It is concluded that the development of such practices in dental education is a prerequisite for training students to dentists oriented toward patient-centered dental practice.

An articulated type 3D robot teaching machine has been developed. This teaching machine has 6 degrees of freedom. It can produce the 3D coordinate data and orientation data of robot end effector. On the robot teaching task, easy operation and dexterity of the teaching machine is necessary to the teaching operator. The articulated type machine satisfies these requests but the accuracy is less than that of the Cartesian type machine, so the precise calibration is necessary to the articulated machine. On the 1st Report a calibration process was proposed but disregarded factor of error was found out. In this 2nd Report, we analyze the new factor of the measuring error and we have discovered the effect of the flexible coupling used in the teaching machine is very important. The measuring error of the teaching machine decreases about 1.0 mm to 1.3mm when the coupling is exchanged.

This paper describes about the kinematic error model and calibration procedure of the 3D robot teaching instrument. 3D teaching operation, using a real robot is not efficient work. The 3D teaching instrument has been developed for the robot teaching tasks. Articulated type teaching instrument has high mobility, but it is necessary to calibrate precisely to realize high positioning accuracy. In this report a method to identify the base point of measuring coordinate system and offset angle of the joint, numerically by Powell method is proposed. A calibration method of link parameter errors, using the SVD (Singular Value Decomposition)is presented. By the experimental results, this calibration procedure is proved.
