To investigate how aged drivers can drive more safely, we are developing an immersive virtual driving environment. It consists of precise force feedback steering system device, dynamics simulation software and the K-Cave. Using OpenCABIN library system, an accidental scenario is actualized as a combination of small VR applications.

Using a car driving simulator, we can observe drivers’ behaviors in dangerous situations safely. We constructed an immersive car driving simulator. We conducted an experiment in a real environment and an experiment in this virtual environment. The task was that a driver turned a car to the right in both real and virtual environment. The numbers of subjects were one in a real environment and six in a virtual environment. We observed a common behavior of a driver in both environment, two common behaviors of six drivers in virtual environment and two individual variations from six drivers in virtual environment. Our immersive car simulator worked as a simulation of a real driving situation.

Graduate School of System Design and Management, Keio Universit yAbstract : This paper addresses the definition of the driver ’s functions for an automated vehicle of level 3, as defined by the Society of Automotive Engineers. By combining th e constituent systems surrounding the automated vehicles in specific use cases, their interactions co uld be refined in a stepwise approach. This approach enables traceability of interactions betw een drivers, automated driving systems, and other constituent systems.Key Words : System of Systems; Systems Engineering; Automated Vehicle; S ystem Modeling Language* 교신저자 : Satoko Kinoshita, [email protected]* This is an Open-Access article distributed under the terms of the Creative Commons Attribution Non-Commercial License(http://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-nc/3.0) which pe rmits unrestricted non-commercial use, distribution, and reproduction in any medium, provided the original work is properly cited.

We have developed an immersive car driving simulator combining an immersive display K-Cave and a car cockpit system with a steering force-feedback feature. An immersive car driving simulator enables a driver to feel distance from the car to objects such as walls, people or another cars, so the driver can operate difficult tasks such as driving along or turning to the narrow road. Experiments for a test subject was carried out to validate the immersive simulator and analyze the driver’s behavior.
