SPATIAL THINKING MAHASISWA DALAM PEMBELAJARAN ANATOMI TUMBUHAN BERBASIS FRAMING

A study to investigate the role of framing in plant anatomy course was conducted to facilitate spatial thinking of prospective teachers. A number of Biology Education students in one state university in South Sumatra was involved in this study (n=35). Data on spatial thinking ability was collected through the usage of test developed based on Kosslyn framework and observation sheet been validated by expert judgment. Pre-test and post-test results were analyzed by using percentage and N-Gain for each spatial thinking indicator (generating representation, maintaining and managing representation in working memory, scanning the representation and transforming the representation). The study resulted in that there is improvement of students’ spatial thinking with N-gain 46.1 (moderate category) after having experience through framing based learning instruction. The highest percentage of students’ spatial thinking is generating representation (86.4) and the lowest is transforming representation (50.0). Research finding shows that framing had not fully framed students’ maintaining and managing representation, as well as transforming representation. In order to increase students’ spatial thinking, it is needed revision on framing dynamics.

Profile of middle school students on scientific literacy achievements by using scientific literacy assessments (SLA)

Along with the development of science and technology, the basic ability to read, write and count is not enough just to be able to survive in the modern era that surrounded by the products of science and technology. Scientific literacy is an ability that might be added as basic ability for human in the modern era. Recently, Fives et al. developed a new scientific literacy assessment for students, named as SLA (Scientific Literacy Assessment). A pilot study on the achievements of scientific literacy of middle school students in Sumedang using SLA was conducted to investigate the profile scientific literacy achievement of 223 middle school students in Sumedang, and compare the outcomes between genders (159 girls and 64 boys) and school accreditation (A and B) using a quantitative method with descriptive research-school survey. Attitude level of prospective science teachers towards assessment

A descriptive study about attitude level of prospective science teachers towards assessment was conducted with the involvement of 67 prospective science teachers from four state universities in western part of the Indonesian region and middle part of Indonesia region. Data collected by using the questionnaire consisted of four aspects, id est. prospective science teachers attitude towards assessment (cognitive level of assessment, type of assessment, and criterion of evaluation), prospective science teachers instructional practice, internal difficulties that prospective science teachers experienced related to their assessment skills, and the use of assessment process of prospective science teachers. Determination of attitude level detected from prospective science teachers was carried out in descriptive statistics, in the form of respondent average values. Research finding shows that attitude level of prospective science teachers towards assessment can be categorized as “close to constructivist”.

Kemampuan Mengkonstruksi Peta Konsep dan Pengaruhnya Terhadap Penguasaan Konsep Bioteknologi

Tujuan penelitian ini adalah mengukur efektivitas penggunaan peta konsep pada konsep-konsep yang mendasari bioteknologi terhadap penguasaan konsep. Penelitian dilakukan terhadap mahasiswa Pendidikan Biologi peserta mata Kapita Selekta Biologi SMA 1 dan 2 yang membahas 5 materi/konsep yang melandasi bioteknologi. Efektivitas penggunaan peta konsep diukur berdasarkan peningkatan nilai peta konsep dari satu materi ke materi berikutnya, serta berdasarkan hasil tes. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan, penguasaan konsep-konsep dasar bioteknologi meningkat seiring dengan nilai peta konsep . Kata kunci: bioteknologi, penguasaan konsep, peta konsep

PREFERENSI DAN PERSEPSI PERSONAL PESERTA TERHADAP KONTEN BIOLOGI YANG MENJADI FOKUS PENELITIAN SELAMA MENGIKUTI PENDIDIKAN PROFESI GURU

This paper presents results of study on the development of professional training program participants’ personal perceptions and preferences toward biology content which were used as their research subject along the program. This longitudinal study was carried out in one of universities which conducted professional training program. As many as 23 participants have an undergraduate degree in biology and did have not educational research experience. The main data source for this sequential exploratory research design was participants’ classroom action research document which was analyzed along the program. Questionnaire on biological content capabilities was used as an additional instrument to identify participant’s personal perception. Results showed that biology content themes used are always changing. Personal perception of participants according to biology content also varied. In addition, biology content chosen as research focus was not related with the level of complexity of the content and participants self-efficacy. ABSTRAK Artikel ini menyajikan hasil penelitian tentang perkembangan preferensi dan persepsi personal peserta program pendidikan profesi guru. Penelitian longitudinal ini dilakukan di salah satu universitas penyelenggara pendidikan profesi guru biologi di Indonesia selama satu setengah tahun. Sejumlah 23 peserta program pendidikan profesi guru biologi yang menjadi subyek penelitian ini memiliki latar belakang akademik sarjana biologi dan tidak memiliki pengalaman melaksanakan penelitian pendidikan. Dokumen rancangan dan laporan penelitian tindakan kelas peserta selama mengikuti pendidikan profesi guru merupakan sumber data utama penelitian yang menggunakan desain penelitian campuran tipe eksploratori sekuensial. Kuesioner tentang kemampuan konten biologi merupakan instrumen pendukung yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini. Hasil menunjukkan bahwa preferensi tema konten biologi peserta selalu berubah. Persepsi personal peserta terhadap konten biologi yang dipilihnya sebagai fokus penelitian juga bervariasi. Sebagai tambahan, pemilihan konten yang dijadikan fokus penelitian tidak terkait dengan kepercayaan diri peserta terhadap pemahaman konten yang dimilikinya.
