As the digital cable TV broadcasting technique is developed, various applications on a digital cable receiver have been required. Particularly, OpenCableTM specifications for digital cable TV broadcasting have presented a cable receiver with multi-tuner for serving a Digital Video Recorder (DVR) application, a Picture-In-Picture (PIP) application, a Picture-Out-Picture (POP) application and etc. But there are some problems for supporting such applications because the existing CableCARDTM device processes conditional access for only one channel at once. Therefore OpenCableTM specifications have introduced the Multi-Stream CableCARDTM device in order to solve the above problems. The Multi-Stream CableCARDTM device can support conditional access processing for 2 or more channels simultaneously. In this paper, we have designed hardware architecture of the Multi-Stream CableCARDTM device. The designed Multi-Stream CableCARDTM device is implemented based on a FPGA which processes multi-channel filtering, MPEG-2 TS filtering, and DVB-Common descrambling and a microprocessor which manages conditional access applications. Especially we have proposed a descrambler design for the high-speed processing in order to support the 200 Mbps input data bandwidth.

This paper presents an efficient design and implementation of user terminal for Downloadable Conditional Access System (DCAS). The DCAS system enables cable operators to flexibly change and update their Conditional Access Systems (CAS) without hardware changes by downloading CA applications through Hybrid Fiber Coaxial (HFC) network. In order to do this, the DCAS user terminal provides DCAS functionalities including CA client download and update through DCAS protocol. The proposed design and implementation in this paper can be used to develop advanced DCAS user devices such as smart phone supporting broadcasting and communication converged services.

This work presents a key refreshment management scheme for a conditional access system (CAS) in DTV broadcasting. The proposed scheme not only performs dynamic entitlement management securely and efficiently, but also reduces the key generation and encryption load for CAS.

We propose the functional design of the next generation mobile HD television. The next generation mobile television should have functions which can support successful business models to overcome the failing problems of the conventional services. For this, the next generation mobile television should have to support the HDTV over 40 inches screen for public transportations such as buses and trains etc and have non-linear programming functions to deliver the contents users want through mobile broadcasting network.

Conditional access system (CAS) performs entitlement management to make only legitimate subscribers watch pay-services. Generally, CAS uses passive entitlement management to fulfil that entitlement control, and various schemes are existed for that. Among them, Tu introduced two schemes in F.K. Tu et al., (1999), which are the simple scheme and complete scheme of four levels hierarchy. The advantage of the simple scheme of four levels hierarchy is a small key generation and encryption load for a CAS, but it is not good for the dynamic entitlement management. On the other hand, the complete scheme of four levels hierarchy is good for the dynamic entitlement management, but key generation and encryption load for CAS is considerable when it is compared to the simple scheme. In this circumstance, we proposed a novel scheme, which is an active entitlement key management. The proposed scheme not only performs the dynamic entitlement management very efficiently, but also generates and encrypts keys with a small load for CAS, which is just the same as the load of the simple scheme

This paper presents a design and implementation method for a high speed scrambling system which encrypts MPEG-2 transport stream (TS) data using DVB-common scrambling algorithm. The presented designs scrambling system has a parallel processing structure based on one MPEG-2 TS packet data block for high speed scrambling. As its structure is extendable for a required transmission rate, it is expected to be used effectively for the future broadcasting system requiring higher transmission rate

In this paper, we present the performance evaluation of high speedy data transmission on HFC (hybrid fiber coax) network. The proposed performance modeling methods simultaneously evaluate both high speedy data transmission system and DOCSIS 2.0 system. The evaluation conducts FTP file service based on TCP/IP protocol for digital broadcasting system. The result displays the downloaded file using Window Media Player. For the objective evaluation, we use the IXIA traffic generator and analyzer.

This paper presents an effective user interface (UI) implementation for interactive data services of digital multimedia broadcasting (DMB) devices. The user interface was designed base on tablet PC and windows environments. In this paper, we present two kinds of classes services; local interactive service and remote interactive service. Remote interactive service has three classes service also; low-rate data service, real time downloading/streaming service, and closed-loop interactive service

In this paper, we present the design, implementation and validation of a cable terminal platform for high speedy transmission. The simulator is implemented on a personal computer to validate performance. The proposed simulation system has designed for 400 Mbps down streaming service of terminal platform for digital cable broadcasting system. The proposed simulation conducts FTP file service using TCP/IP protocols based on cable broadcasting system

In this paper, we present the design and implementation of MAC system user interface for digital cable headend modem and terminal platform system. The proposed MAC system controls and monitors the status of the headend cable modem and terminal platform system. The advantage of the proposed system is real time processing, remote controlling, and object oriented module decomposing
