Flexibility of manufacturing systems is an essential factor in maintaining the competitiveness of industrial production. Flexibility can be defined in several ways and according to several factors, but in order to obtain adequate results in implementing a flexible manufacturing system able to compete on the market, a high level of autonomy (free of human intervention) of the manufacturing system must be achieved. There are many factors that can disturb the production process and reduce the autonomy of the system, because of the need of human intervention to overcome these disturbances. One of these factors is tool wear. The aim of this paper is to present an experimental study on the possibility to determine the state of tool wear in a flexible manufacturing cell environment, using image acquisition and processing methods.

The paper presents a new method of monitoring and warning drowsy drivers in order to prevent accidents. Analyzing current approaches we decided to study algorithms which can be used for drowsiness/awareness detection when applying techniques based on EEG and EMG signals measurement. There are also a large number of studies which uses EEG signals for brain – computer interface applications. This method has the advantage that is independent from the equipment, vehicle or situ where it is used, and can be applied both for drivers and equipment operators too.

The paper aims to present the result obtained during mechanical characterization of ceramic materials. The characterization of the materials was realized using the G200 nanoindenter with the goal of fully characterizing the mechanical proprieties (hardness, and modulus). Keywords—ceramic materials, mechanical characteristics, nanoindenter

In this paper we present results on application of bioremediation technology of oil polluted terrains. The use of bacteria clean the soil is based on three methods: laboratory analysis, mathematical modeling and on-site experiments. Starting from in situ experiments we tested two mathematical functions in order to approximate temperature data obtained after injection of nutrients. The obtained function helps predicting the time for the next injection of nutrients. Keywords—bioremediation, biological activity temperature monitoring, curve fitting methods.

The paper will present a software algorithm for generating tool lists necessary for the implementation of the automatic tool readjustment function (ATR) within the TMA 550 AL flexible manufacturing cell. The implementation of the algorithm will also be presented in the paper. Keywords—algorithms, flexible manufacturing, tool management.

Production systems must be flexible and endowed with techniques and tools allowing an automatic recovery of errors. And so, the subject of error recovery in flexible manufacturing system is always an open issue. The objective of this work consists in proposing a new type of software framework for error troubleshooting in a flexible manufacturing system that is perceived as an Intelligent Space (iSpace). Our framework system is designed to solve the failures in the functioning of the FMS and to generate self-training from previous experience.
