A regulamentação da propaganda de alimentos no Brasil: convergências e conflitos de interesses

Patricia Henriques; Patricia Camacho Dias; Luciene Burlandy

This study conducted a comparative analysis of a bill to regulate advertising for unhealthy food and beverages with low nutritional value, submitted to public hearings in 2006, and the Resolution passed in 2010. The analysis was based on data from official documents pertaining to food advertising, identification of key actors, and their underlying arguments. As approved, the Resolution is less detailed and rigorous from the regulatory perspective. The final documents removed bans and requirements on the format, content, and theme of food advertising, especially targeting children. Stronger discussion is needed on the constitution of the public arena, public interests, and the mechanisms and processes to help guarantee them.

This study analyzed potential conflicts of interest regarding the commercial private sector and health promotion policies, particularly their interface with the food and nutrition field in Brazil. The paper addresses the influence of international ideas in this process. The study analyzed the two separate publications of the Brazilian National Health Promotion Policy – of 2006, and of 2014 – and the international agreements that supported them. The method used was analysis of documents, with a categorization into the following dimensions and categories: In the dimension of the Ideas of health promotion, the focus items were the principles and the strategies proposed; In the dimension of conflicts of interest, these aspects were identified: the approach in the documents, relationships with the commercial private sector, and proposals referred to as ‘public-private partnerships’. It was concluded that these policies still adopt a fragile approach in terms of conflict of interest. The debate is de-politicized when the asymmetries of power between the sectors involved in the public-private relationships are not made explicit, or when the practices of the commercial private sector that harm objectives, principles and values of health promotion policies are left out of account. This study analyzed potential conflicts of interest regarding the commercial private sector and health promotion policies, particularly their interface with the food and nutrition field in Brazil. Evaluation of body composition: a comparison between two systems of bioelectrical impedance

Patricia Camacho Dias; Gloria Valeria da Veiga; Sidney Cavalcante da Silva

This study compared resistance (R) and body composition obtained via the bioelectrical impedance analysis (BIA) leg‐to‐leg system with the arm‐to‐leg system, using underwater weighing as a standard method. The study subjects were 48 healthy men between 20‐40 years old. No difference was observed in the means of R, per cent body fat (%BF) and fat‐free mass (FFM) obtained from the two systems, but the range of individual differences was from – 70 to + 60ohms for R, from – 5 to + 7kg for FFM and – 8 to + 8 for %BF. The two systems of BIA overestimated the %BF and underestimated FFM. Concludes that LLS is an alternative to assessment of body composition in epidemiological studies. However, independent of the system, BIA is not appropriate for estimating body composition at an individual level.

NEW SYMMETRIC DIISOPROPYLPHOSPHORYL-S-ALKANEDI YLDIISOTHIOUREAS. INVESTIGATIONS ON THEIR SYNTHESIS

Marcos C. de Souza; Aniy K. Ohara; Denise R. Araripe; Patricia Camacho Dias; Janaina C. Kuwata

Abstract Symmetric dialkylphosphoryl-S-alkanediyldiisothiouas (RO)2P(O)NHC(=NH)S(CH2)n SC(=NH)NHP(O)(OR)2 (I, R = isopropyl; n = 2–5) have potential coordination sites involving O, P, N and S as donors atoms. For their synthesis, common two-phase reactions between the corresponding diisothiourea derivatives and diisopropyi phosphonate were unsuccessful. Herein we describe a new synthesis for such compounds using diisopropyl chlorophosphonate. Two new bis-phosphorylated alkanediyldiisothioureas with increasing carbon chain (I; n = 3, n = 5) were prepared by this method.

Health Promoting Schools: Implementation Challenges, Barriers, and Lessons from a Case Study

Rosana Magalhães; Lívia Cardoso Gomes; Carmelinda Monteiro Costa Afonso; Roberto Eduardo Albino Brandão; Patricia Camacho Dias; Marlon Mattos

The aim of this study was to evaluate the implementation process of the “Saude na Escola” (“Health in School”) program in Manguinhos, a slum area in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. Based on an analytical framework of theory-driven evaluation, an exploratory case study was developed involving normative document analysis, in-depth interviews, focus groups with teachers and students’ parents, and direct observation. The results reveal a poor articulation between health and education sectors, top-down decision making, and barriers to community participation. In addition, the focus strategy adopted weakened a more integrated approach, the evaluation process, and accountability.
