In this paper, we present an ant-based multipath routing protocol that considers both energy and latency. Energy efficiency is an important issue in mobile ad hoc networks (MANETs) since node energy supplies are stored in batteries. In order to increase the network lifetime it is important to maximize the minimum node energy along the path. As the network topology changes, failures may occur on active routes, resulting in the need for new route discoveries if only single routes per flow are maintained. Frequent new route discovery would, however, increase routing overhead and increase mean and peak packet latency. Using multiple routes simultaneously per flow can be a solution to these problems. In a multipath context, we consider mobile ad-hoc communication networks with dual-priority traffic: latency-critical and not latency-critical. For latency-critical traffic, energy-pheromone and delay-pheromone metrics are combined after being normalized so that their respective significance is preserved. For not latency-critical traffic, only energy-pheromone metrics are used.

In this paper, we propose a semantic negotiation based service framework for the extraction of optimized service information without user intervention in intelligent Machine to Machine (M2M) environment. Proposed semantic negotiation procedure is used for a machine in order to interact with another encountered heterogeneous machine. Through the proposed semantic negotiation procedure, each machine can understand the messages thoroughly sent by the corresponding machine and exchange necessary information.

In this paper, we propose a Context Aware Intelligent Mobile Platform (IMP) for the use of various surrounding local services with minimal user intervention in the forthcoming ubiquitous environment. Through the use of proposed platform, a user can easily discover available surrounding local services and utilize the best service appropriate for ones situation and devices constraints. The user situation and the corresponding service are automatically grasped by the embedded context aware engine and selected by the semantic machine to machine manager.

In this paper, a variant of the conventional multicasting called geocasting, or location-based multicasting, is presented. The proposed scheme combines anycasting, restricted broadcasting, and local broadcasting to deliver packets to a group of nodes presented in a specific geographic region called geocast region. Also, the proposed scheme utilizes a pheromone-aided multipath algorithm (PPRA) to perform energy-efficient load balancing that increases the network lifetime. We compare the performance of GeoPPRA with well-known geocasting protocol GAMER via simulation. The simulation results show significant reductions of energy consumption, while maintaining comparable delivery ratio defined as the ratio of successfully delivered data packets to the total data packets sent from the source to one of the geocast group members.

Incorporation of data from multiple resources and various structures is necessary for accurate estimation of the driving range for electric vehicles. In addition to the parameters of the vehicle model, states of the battery, weather information, and road grade, the driving behavior of the driver in different regions is a critical factor in predicting the speed/acceleration profile of the vehicle. Following our previously proposed big data analysis framework for range estimation, in this paper we implement and compare different techniques for speed profile generation. Moreover we add the big data analysis classification results to especially improve the performance of the Markov Chain approach. The quantitative results show the significant influence of considering the big data analysis results on range estimation.

For a delay-sensitive application, it is important to maintain the probability that the end-to-end delay is greater than a certain threshold as small as possible. In order to satisfy such a constraint, a shortest path in terms of hop-count is generally chosen. However, hop-count is a very crude measure of the path latency and also if the shortest path breaks before the end of the transmission, it is likely that the delay constraint will not be met. In this paper, we propose an overlay framework that considers both delay and mobility to satisfy the QoS requirements of the delay-sensitive application. Also, we propose network and application layer QoS and mobility management schemes which utilize both reactive and proactive methods.

High complexity of understanding users current situation is a crucial barrier to popularize context aware applications on smartphone. In order to overcome this barrier, we propose a context aware engine which eases the development of intelligent applications. Key feature of the engine is dynamic reconfiguration of the knowledge base depending on the current environments using linked data. We validated the usefulness of this feature via two in-house applications.

We propose a new service discovery method based on Shared-Space concept. SharedSpace is a virtual community space for service registration and sharing, which is similar to a chat room in a chat system. Any user can freely create a SharedSpace and register his/her services. Others can join the created SharedSpace as members and register their services. All registered services can be shared by the SharedSpace members as if they are in a single network. Detailed mechanism is designed and implemented with Obje middleware in order to validate our scheme.
