Celebridade e contexto contemporâneo

This paper discusses the hermeneutic power ofa celebrity (seen from the concept of event), seeking to understand what it reveals about the contemporary context. Based on this premise, we attempt to recognize some aspects of contemporary social life that emerge from the trajectory of a specific celebrity: the former soccer player Ronaldo Fenomeno. This analysis brings to light the hermeneutic power of Ronaldo, i.e., how his life story reveals characteristics of contemporary social life. Individualism, machismo, emphasis on a heteronormative ideal, shifts in the construction of romantic relationships, and the overlapping spheres of public and private life, are some important aspects of contemporary society revealed by this analysis.

Porto dos Milagres: diálogo com a realidade social e construção de símbolos de pertencimento

Este artigo analisa uma telenovela brasileira contemporânea (Porto dos Milagres, Aguinaldo Silva e Ricardo Linhares, Rede Globo, 21h, 2001) como um cenario em que sao produzidas representacoes politicas e socio-culturais sobre a vida social. O texto busca mostrar como essa narrativa midiatica fornece elementos para a construcao do imaginario popular e de simbolos de identificacao e pertencimento e revela que as discussoes empreendidas na ficcao mantem estreita relacao com a realidade social. Assim, o texto procura demonstrar que a telenovela ocupa um lugar privilegiado no movimento de construcao de uma identidade nacional.
