Analysing a collaborative writing activity in order to improve tutor's perception of individual contributions of learners

Christelle Laperrousaz; Pascal Leroux; Philippe Teutsch

This paper is interesting in the tutors perception of the learners contribution to a collective work. In particular, we propose means of individual perception of a collaborative writing activity. We present what a collaborative writing activity is and what the tutors needs of perception are in order to follow a collaborative writing activity. Then, we present our propositions of perception of individual contribution through the analysis of discussions.

How to See Training Paths in Learning Management Systems

Philippe Teutsch; Jean-François Bourdet

This paper presents on-going research concerning the design of monitoring features for human-computer interfaces (HCI) for long distance training courses. The objective is to design visualization tools that facilitate the task of the on-line course teacher. The teacher needs to see the learning path and learners contributions in the Learning Management System (LMS). The paper successively presents the research issues related to computer design of such interfaces, a typology of different dimensions to be taken into account (scenario, participants, calendar) and a tool designed for on-line monitoring of individual paths inside a training course (CROISIÈRES). Perspectives concern a methodological framework for HCI design and evaluation in the context of supervisory control in distance course.

Percevoir les trajets d'apprentissage en formation à distance. Conception pluridisciplinaire d'outils de visualisation pour le tuteur

Philippe Teutsch; Jean-François Bourdet

The implementation of computing environments in the context of distance education raises the issue of interfacing between the marks of activity with the system and the tutor in charge to regulate the training device. This article presents the results of a multidisciplinary research focusing on the visualization of training paths: a typology of different dimensions to be taken into account (scenario, participants, calendar) and various monitoring tools designed for online tutoring. Each of them contributes to the representation of online activity: path conducted within a training course (Croisieres), characteristics of individual participation in a collective activity (TACSI), composition by the tutor of views from a combination of a three-dimensional reference.

Perception of Individual Activities in a Group Activity through Qualitative Information about the Group Dynamics

Christelle Laperrousaz; Pascal Leroux; Philippe Teutsch

This paper presents the difficulties that the tutor encounters when he carries out the follow-up of a distance collective activity, and particularly those related to the perception of the individual work in a collective activity. From a study of scenarios of distance collective activity found in the literature, we make some proposals in order to facilitate the tutors perception of the learners activity in the group activity, in particular, to facilitate the perception of the group dynamics with qualitative information. We have elaborated a model of follow-up of learners involved in a collective activity which we present in this paper, especially, the functionality of perception of the group dynamics. We present the tools of perception of the group dynamics we have implanted.

A software companion capable of dialogue

Christelle Laperrousaz; Philippe Teutsch

We discuss the conditions for the integration of a software companion into a distance training system. The study context is that of Croisieres, a device to learn French. The main questions raised when integrating a software companion into such a device can be answered by defining the various roles that the companion plays for the learner, by defining a written dialogue that can be established between companion and learner, and by defining the companions capacities for explanation.
