Double presence, which is understood as the need to respond simultaneously to the demands of paid and domestic-family work, mostly affects women and may negatively affect their health. Our hypothesis is that double presence increases as a function of the demands of domestic-family work, but is also associated with management practices related to the availability of time for paid work, prolonged and atypical work schedules, and heightened demands. A cross-sectional study was conducted with a representative sample of the salaried population in Spain. Information was gathered through a standardized questionnaire administered through home visits. Statistical analysis shows a relationship between double presence and the demands of increased work schedules, rotating schedules, irregular schedules, and exposure to psychosocial risks (high quantitative and emotional psychological demands). Double presence should be considered as a variable in the evaluation of psychosocial risks, and collective bargaining should consider negotiating clauses that can impact it positively.

The conciliation between work, family and personal life is a new issue in the Spanish collective bargaining. In our opinion, the European Employment Strategy has played an important role in the dissemination of this topic, called as «spill-over effect». Anyway, the social actors have different conceptions about the conciliation. From Human Resource of companies usually trend to managing this topic as an element of differentiation of work force, according with different levels, qualification and skill. On the contrary, trade unions and work council tray to manage this topic, as an aspect of collective action but often the conciliation is also understood as an expression of personals and labour situations so match different. Also the aim of unions is to manage this topic as a progress of «personal» rights.

This article presents an analysis of the career paths of immigrant men and women in order to study the Spanish employment model. It takes into account the influence of changes in the sexual division of labour along the career paths. The main objective is to show the features of work and personal life of the immigrant population in the construction and care sectors. The results describe the impact that structural factors such as gender and ethnicity have on the career paths. The crossroads between gender and ethnicity creates a so-called “status inconsistency” defining in large part the career paths of immigrants. Work trajectories are characterized by a continuum transition between formal and informal sectors, becoming the social model of immigrant employment
