A braiding rope is the Japanese traditional rope that a quality and beauty of them have depended on the skill and experience of a braider. In this research, the skill of a expert and two non-experts who practice the braiding everyday and every week, respectively were measured and compared through the eye’s movement measurement and observed the braiding rope quality. The measurement was carried out every month for three times. It was found that the expert show the constant of eye’s focus at the center of marudai plate and reveled a complete pattern of braiding rope. For two non-experts, their eye’s movement wobbled around marudai plate for all trials. However, the braiding speed and quality were developed by the regular training. There are no the defects in the ropes in the trial 2 and 3.

This research focused on the developing the capacity of knitting skill. The comparison of skill between the experts with non-experts was studied. The movement of arms was measured to investigate the effect of arm movement on quality of knitting fabric. The experiment was carried out with a video camera to record and analyze the differences of the knitting speed and manner in knitting. The quality of the fabric was measured by a loop of fabric to see the consistency of the loop fabric, which is important for beautiful fabrics. The results revealed the procedure used to crochet knitting machines were very different in appearance, knitting and speed. The quality of the fabric was beautiful, similar to the use of the knitting as machine knitting. The main difference between them was only part of the seams.

The subjects were three men differential experience of lathe processing such as 87,500 h, 6,300 h and 384 h on 87, 32 and 40 years old respectively. The attendees were affixed fourteen reflective markers for motion analysis and ten surface electrodes on the muscles of arms. The chucking movement did not leaned the body and used the center of the body to be a center of movement characterized the muscle contraction of expert on bilateral muscle of Flexor carpi radialis and Triceps bracii and then they still used the right Extensor carpi radialis longus, right Biceps brachii and left Deltoid. The abnormal twisting movement by bending the body to the left side and leaned the left knee down indicated the experts still contracted the muscle as like the first movement. The muscle energy usages of the experts had higher than the non-expert whom took a muscle continuously contraction along time.

In this research, a needle bar was studied to approach the techniques and manufactures of this product by learning via the expert. Although the fixed of the pins on the brass bar is the only one step to make a needle bar, the fixed method is so complicate. It requires the fineness and high skill from manufacturer. The soldering process was used for fixed pins and brass bar together. However, the effect of heat transfer from soldering process on brass bar revealed the curve of specimen. The hitting technique was used to modify the curve. This technique is very useful. The curved of needle bar was improved and became too straight.Copyright

Effect of Chucking Movement With the Indentation on the Work-Piece Surface in Chuck Jaws Gripping of a Lathe Between an Expert and a Non-Expert

Porakoch Sirisuwan; Masayuki Nakamura; Takashi Yoshikawa

Analysis of depth and the roughness from the chuck jaws indentation investigated by the Olympus LEXT-OLS4000 Laser microscope. Strain gauges were used for measuring the gripping force of the jaws. The three-characteristic movements of an expert who ensured that the work-piece was kept steady and balance did not measurably affect the surface indentation of the work-pieces. The characteristic movement of the non-expert often straddled the left body to the left side while he was twisting the chuck-key has appeared the surface indentations. The depth inspection of them found the inside of surface indentation deeper than outside. Moreover, the results of a strain gauge measurement of all movements both an expert and the non-expert indicated the inside of the jaw had higher the strain than outside. Nevertheless, the results showed the most strain on work-piece surface occurred with the body movement of the non-expert.Copyright

Porakoch Sirisuwan; Chieko Narita; Tetsushi Koshino; Akihiko Goto

The purpose of this study was to study the history of traditional Japanese trowel process. The research study were conducted the trowel blade which was made from SK5 steel. Microstructure and grain sizes were accurately measured by using the optical microscope (OM). The resultant microstructures of hardening were observed as martensite. After the tempering process, the result of microstructure found the temper-martensite structure. In the hardening process was heated up 800–850°C to austenite structure and quenched in cooling oil. Moreover, in the annealing process was quenched into straw ashes for cooling after heat up until 750°C. All heat treatment temperature and surface quality were observed and controlled by eyesight and experience of Japanese expert.Copyright

Differences Among an Expert and a Non Expert in the Behavior for Chucking in the Lathe

Porakoch Sirisuwan; Tetsushi Koshino; Chieko Narita; Takashi Yoshikawa

The expert worker (85 years old) has worked for 70 years and the non expert (16 years old) has worked 1 year of experience for the lathe processing. The subjects were compared the difference in the waist, the shoulder and the fore arm movement between the two worker while they were chucking on the lathe machine. Determination used the same parts and the same type of lathe machine for investigated. There were 4 main categories that related three stances position alignment and two hands position on the key chuck.Using the 6 infrared cameras and 2 video cameras captured the position of each marker. All markers position data which synchronization was taken by a motion analysis system (sampling rate: 100Hz). As a results show the balance movement both the waist and the shoulder during the chucking that had significantly greater in the expert worker than the non expert worker.Copyright

The Evaluations of the Muscle Activity During “Momi” by Using the Different Immersed Bamboo in Water to Making Kyo-Uchiwa (Japanese Paper Fan)

Porakoch Sirisuwan; Chieko Narita; Tetsushi Koshino; Hisanori Yuminaga

The aim of study is to evaluate whether altering the bamboo moisture by immersed bamboo in water on 4-hour and 3 -day that would affect the muscle activity during separated bamboo by bending process. Moreover, thirteen muscles which bilateral side of Pectoralis major, Biceps brachii, Triceps brachii, Latissimus dorsi, Gluteus medius and only right side of Rectus abdominis, Extensor carpi radialis longus and Flexor carpi radialis were recorded. As a result, the bilateral side of Biceps brachii, right side of Extensor carpi radialis longus and Flexor carpi radialis, left side of Triceps brachii showed the difference quite clearly. When the craftsman was bending the bamboo he was necessary more effortful by these muscles activity on the 4-hour immersed bamboo in water than the 3-day. The scanning electron microscopy (SEM) photographs showed the fracture characteristic of 2 subjects that the adhesive of bamboo fiber decreased when increased moisture.Copyright
