The occurrences of neoplasia’s in the nasal cavity in dogs occur in approximately 1% of all neoplasms. Olfactory neuroblastoma is a neuroepithelial neoplasm of the nasal cavity and paranasal sinuses rarely reported in dogs and has as main clinical signs epistaxis, sneezing, respiratory distress, facial deformity and neurological changes. For definitive diagnosis, histopathological examination is indispensable, and extensive mitosis, pleomorphism and necrosis are generally observed. There is still no standard protocol for the treatment of olfactory neuroblastoma, but removal of the tumor followed by radiotherapy is the treatment modality that has given the patients a longer survival time. The objective of this work was to report a case of olfactory neuroblastoma in a dog with no defined breed at eleven years old, highlighting the diagnostic methods for this disease, with emphasis on tomographic and histopathological findings.

Squamous cell carcinoma (SCC), also known as squamous cell carcinoma, squamous cell carcinoma or squamous cell carcinoma, is a cutaneous malignant neoplasm that appears frequently in felines, presenting in this species a distinct behavior of the other species. Prolonged exposure to ultraviolet (UV) light seems to be one of the etiologic factors of the disease, just as the hypopigmented and low-hair areas are the most affected. The color of the coat is one of the predisposing factors, it is known that white-coated cats are more likely to present the disease when compared to the pigmented ones. Regarding localization, most of the lesions are observed in the head and more often in the nasal plane, followed by the auricles and eyelids, and may present in varied forms as proliferative or erosive. The diagnostic suspicion comes through the history and clinical characteristics of the lesions, but for diagnostic definition cytological and histopathological examination is necessary. Precocity in diagnosis has a fundamental effect on prognosis. There are several treatment modalities for squamous cell carcinoma including surgery, ionizing radiation, chemotherapy, photodynamic therapy, electrochemotherapy and cryosurgery. Cryosurgery consists of the controlled use of low temperatures in order to induce cell death. The objective of this work was to report two cases of felines diagnosed with squamous cell carcinoma treated with different protocols. Animal 1 is a 10-year-old, male, 10-year-old male with ulcerative lesion in the nasal plane for approximately 6 months, attended at the Veterinary Clinic in Olinda-PE. The diagnosis was made through a cytological examination, identifying squamous cell carcinoma. The treatment established was cryosurgery, but the animal did not receive a favorable treatment response, probably due to the delay in the search for veterinary care, which delayed the diagnosis and consequently aggravated the neoplastic lesion making it difficult to treat. The animal was submitted to euthanasia after worsening of its clinical condition, 2 months after starting the treatment. Animal 2 is a 14-year-old undefined female feline with ulcerative lesion in the left ear. The diagnosis was made through cytology and histopathology. The established treatment was surgery. To date, the animal has not had any complications.

El dimorfismo sexual es una funcion clave para la antropologia forense. Permite determinar el sexo de ciertos descubrimientos biologicos. Para estudios post mortem, es posible establecer el perfil de los individuos. Este perfil permite la identificacion de los cuerpos en el caso que sean solo esqueletos. Varios huesos presentaron dimorfismo y fueron estudiados para aumentar el enfoque en la identificacion forense. Este estudio evaluo morfometricamente la escapula y se compararon las mediciones entre la escapula de cadaveres femeninos y masculinos. Se utilizaron 60 piezas en esta investigacion. Todos los cadaveres pertenecian al Departamento de Morfologia y Fisiologia Animal de la Universidad Federal Rural de Pernambuco. Los huesos fueron fotografiados y se midieron a traves del software ImageJ®. Se consideraron ocho parametros de las mediciones: altura de la escapula (SH), distancia entre la columna vertebral y la cavidad glenoidea (DBSP), ancho de la escapula (SW), ancho de la columna vertebral (SpW), distancia entre acromion y proceso coracoides (ACW) y ancho del cuerpo de la escapula a 2 (L2), 4 (L4) y 6 (L6) cm del angulo inferior de la escapula. Los valores morfometricos de la mediana para las escapulas de los hombres fueron: SH - 15.143 ± 1.144; DBSP - 7,94 ± 0,61; SW - 10,24 ± 0,65; SpW - 14,01 ± 0,81; ACW - 9,06 ± 0,58; L2 - 4,40 ± 0,54; L4 - 5,51 ± 0,67; L6 - 6,70 ± 0,71. La mediana de las caracteristicas morfometricas de las escapulas de las mujeres fueron: SH - 13,26 ± 0,79; DBSP - 6,96 ± 0,47; SW - 9,08 ± 0,50; SW - 12,43 ± 0,69; ACW - 7,79 ± 0,55 / L2 - 3,83 ± 0,39; L4 4,97 ± 0,41; L6 - 6,29 ± 0,45. Todos los parametros medidos mostraron valores significativamente mayores (p <0,05) para la escapula de los hombres. La escapula es un hueso que presenta dimorfismo sexual y puede ser utilizado en investigaciones forenses. En consecuencia, estos datos sugieren la necesidad de realizar mas estudios de este hueso para la identificacion en otras poblaciones. Los resultados de este estudio pueden ser utiles en aquellos casos en los que otros metodos no puedan aplicarse, debido a que presentan mayores opciones para la investigacion forense.
