Sui Xue-shen; Qi Zhong-ying; Yu Daren; Hu Qinghua; Zhao Hui

As a preprocessing method of data mining with SVM, feature selection can eliminate irrelevant or redundant attributes and increase the density of samples in feature spaces that can improve classification performance. In the field of financial time series pattern recognition, the study of feature selection has been receiving increasing attention. Different from other studies, this work use two new coefficients: neighborhood dependence (ND) and neighborhood decision error (NDEM) to measure the classification complexity as a method of feature selection. In the real example, we use ASH, ASNN, ND and NDEM to measure the classification complexity of technical indicators data set of Shanghai stock exchange (SSE). Then we take the reduced sets which selected by the above four coefficients as input data for SVM. Compared with the forecasting results of SVM for the other three coefficients, the SVM with NDEM reduced data set has higher classification accuracy.

An empirical study on the impact of organizational memory on organizational performance in manufacturing companies

Zhang Li; Tian Ye-zhuang; Qi Zhong-ying

Knowledge is the important asset in organizations. Effective knowledge management plays a crucial role in organizational development. Organizational memory (OM) integrates all kinds of organizational knowledge. It is regarded as the central prerequisite for IT support of knowledge management. The paper analyzes the knowledge structure of OM in manufacturing company from internal and external sources of organizational knowledge. OM in manufacturing company is composed of four types, that is, managerial OM, technical OM, cultural OM and marketing OM. These four types of OM components enhance organizational development jointly. Based on the data from international manufacturing strategy survey (IMSS), factor analysis is used to test the classification of OM and organizational performance (OP), canonical correlation analysis is conducted on the impact of OM components on OP in manufacturing companies. The results from structural equation modeling suggest that OM is a dynamic factor, OM formed in different time has different impact on OP.

Total factor energy efficiency of regions in China: A nonparametric analysis

Zheng Yongjie; Qi Zhong-ying

This study computes the regional total factor energy efficiency (TFEE) in china for the period 1990–2007 by employing DEA-Malmquist. In our DEA-Malmquist model, labor, capital stock and energy consumption are the three inputs and real GDP is the single output. Our empirical results indicate the eastern areas total factor energy efficiency has been on the efficiency frontier surface, the mid-west area is far from that. Before 2000, Chinas inter-provincial energy efficiency exists remarkable convergency tendency, after 2000, the convergency tendency is weaken. the improvement of technical efficiency is more efficient than technical progress to improve TFEE, which may be related to the rebound effect of technical progress. More efficient production processes and advanced technologies have the positive role to national and three areas energy efficiency improvement. This paper has also carried out empirical analysis on all economic factors constituting the total factor energy efficiency by dynamic panel model. The results show that: it is very crucial to increase the capital investment and increase the conversion of labor to human capital so as to improve the total factor energy efficiency and protect the healthy and rapid economic development in China.

Study on Catastrophe Bond Pricing Model Based on Behavioral Finance

Yang Kai; Qi Zhong-ying; Yue Shang-zhi

As a developing nation, China should develop perfect catastrophe insurance system to ensure stabilization of society and development of economy. But characteristics of catastrophe insurance breach basic guide line of conventional insurance-the law of the great number, and then lacking risk transferring approach let insurance agents be unwilling to develop catastrophe insurance. Catastrophe bond is a new underwriting risk transferring approach. China has basal conditions to develop catastrophe bond. But studies on correlative theories of catastrophe bond hang behind in China. Study on catastrophe bond pricing model is the most important in correlative studies. So after considering roundly catastrophe bonds attributes of insurance production and venture capital production, the paper wants to amend the catastrophe bond pricing model that is constructed under risk pricing frame of standard finance by using behavioral finance method. On the base, the paper constructs catastrophe bond pricing model of China according to the situation of china at last. The author hopes that the paper can advance studies on correlative theories of catastrophe bond and let catastrophe bond be issued as soon as possible in China.

IT Adoption and Organizational Slack: An Experimental Study of Manufacturing Firms and Service Firms

Chen Yuanyuan; Qi Zhong-ying

This study discusses the change of organizational slack in the process of IT adoption and contrasts the organizational slack of manufacturing with service industry. It analyzes how IT affects companies in the perspective of organization slack. It tests hypotheses using finance data (1994-2008) from 196 manufacturing listed companies and 180 service listed companies in China. The results indicate there is higher unabsorbed slack in the initial stage of IT adoption, and there is higher absorbed slack in the run-in stage of IT adoption. In the run-in stage of IT adoption absorbed slack of service industry is higher than manufacturing industry.

Cheap talk of supply-demand games in the world oil market

Liang Lin-lin; Qi Zhong-ying

The skyrocketing of the oil price aroused the attention to the supply-demand relationship of the world oil market. Aiming at the incomplete information between suppliers and consumers, this paper studied the production strategy of the suppliers and the judgment of the consumers of the oil market with a signaling game model to deduce the sufficient and essential conditions of the three kinds of market equilibria---separating equilibrium, pooling equilibrium and hybrid equilibrium, and finally made comparison between the three market efficiencies. The result is that the separating equilibrium is the most efficient Bayesian equilibrium of the above three. So the suppliers will transmit correct signals as long as the cost of cheating is high enough and the most efficient market equilibrium could be achieved.

Li Ping; Qi Zhong-ying; Tian Ye-zhuang; Zhang Li

Manufacturing enterprises competitive advantages mainly from the manufacturing sector competitive priority is access to an important means of competitive advantage. This paper manufacturing enterprises in China to the actual situation of Chinese manufacturing enterprises competitive priority status the empirical analysis, the application of international manufacturing strategy research project (International Manufacturing Strategy Survey, IMSS) data, using factor analysis, correlation analysis and multiple regression analysis through the analysis of the various de facto, that the competitiveness of Chinese manufacturing enterprise has accumulated between priority, but the cumulative model specific forms have differences with the global enterprise contrast, the performance of some manufacturing capacity significant advantages (quality, flexibility and innovation), or inferior (cost); priority in the competition for the future relationship between the forecast, Chinese manufacturing enterprises will be the emergence of new forms of accumulation, the study of Chinese manufacturing industry to create a competitive advantage to provide the core ideas.

Effect of Administrative Culture on Performance of E-Government

Li Fei; Qi Zhong-ying; Ma Tao

We construct and test a theoretical model to investigate correlation between administrative culture and e-government performance. The hypothesis was tested using survey data from governments that have implemented e-government more successfully. Result from canonical correlation analysis suggests that administrative culture is related strongly with performance of e-government. So we conclude that administrative culture is one of the most notable factors influencing e-government result.

Empirical research on spatial agglomeration of China's energy industry and the impact factors

Zheng Yongjie; Qi Zhong-ying

Energy industry is the motive force of economic development. Research on the energy industry in china should not ignore the relativity and the heterogeneity of spatial dimensions. At present, time series analysis is used in most of the energy industry, cross-section data analysis, especially the spatial econometric analysis are rarely applied, this paper takes the mainland provinces and cities in China as spatial samples to analyzes the agglomeration status of energy industry as well as the impact factors with the use of spatial econometrics. Firstly, the location quotient is used to make quantitative measure on the agglomeration of energy industry in 30 provinces of China; secondly, moran index is used to test the spatial dependence of the energy industry agglomeration, finally spatial econometric models are used to analyze the impact factors on the agglomeration of the energy industry, and thus the relevant policies and proposals are put forward. Studies show that the energy industry in different provinces is in uneven development, the agglomeration of energy industry in central regions is higher than that of eastern and western regions, the agglomeration of energy industry is obviously dependent on spatial factors, the industrialization, human capital and fixed assets investment have spillover effect on the agglomeration of energy industry, thus the correlation and heterogeneity of spatial dimension can not be ignored in the research of energy industry agglomeration.

Organizational Slack and Firm Performance in the Process of IT Investment - An Experimental Study of Manufacturing Firms

Chen Yuanyuan; Qi Zhong-ying

This study considers how organizational slack (unabsorbed and absorbed) changes and affects firm performance in the different stage of IT investment. We test hypotheses using finance data (1994-2008) from 196 manufacturing listed companies in China. The results indicate there is higher unabsorbed slack in the early stage of IT investment, and there is higher absorbed slack in the run-in stage of IT investment. The correlation between unabsorbed slack and firm performance is positive in the process of IT investment. In contrast absorbed slack presents negative correlation with the firm performance. The hypothesis is not supported for the measure of absorbed slack in the run-in stage.
