We report the first observation of the charmless hyperonic B decay, B+-->LambdaLambdaK+, using a 140 fb(-1) data sample recorded at the Upsilon(4S) resonance with the Belle detector at the KEKB (e+)(e-) collider. The measured branching fraction is B(B+-->LambdaLambdaK+) = (2.91(+0.90)(-0.70) +/- 0.38) x 10(-6). We also perform a search for the related decay mode B+-->LambdaLambdapi+, but do not find a significant signal. We set a 90% confidence-level upper limit of B(B+-->LambdaLambdapi+) < 2.8 x 10(-6).

We present an improved measurement of CP-violating asymmetries in B-0-->pi(+)pi(-) decays based on a 78 fb(-1) data sample collected at the Y(4S) resonance with the Belle detector at the KEKB asymmetric-energy e(+)e(-) collider. We reconstruct one neutral B meson as a B-0-->pi(+)pi(-) CP eigenstate and identify the flavor of the accompanying B meson from inclusive properties of its decay products. We apply an unbinned maximum likelihood fit to the distribution of the time intervals between the two B meson decay points. The fit yields the CP-violating asymmetry amplitudes A(pipi) = +0.77 +/-0.27(stat) +/-0.08(syst) and S-pipi = -1.23+/-0.41(stat) (+0.08)(-0.07)(syst), where the statistical uncertainties are determined from the Monte Carlo pseudoexperiments. We obtain confidence intervals for CP-violating asymmetry parameters A(pipi) and S-pipi based on a frequentist approach. We rule out the CP-conserving case, A(pipi) = S-pipi = 0, at the 99.93% confidence level. We discuss how these results constrain the value of the Cabibbo-Kobayashi-Maskawa (CKM) angle phi(2).

Two-photon and two-gluon decays of p-wave heavy quarkonium using a covariant light-front approach

Chien-Wen Hwang; R. Guo

In this paper, a study of two-photon and two-gluon decays in the context of p-wave heavy quarkonia is presented. Within the covariant light-front framework, the annihilation rates of scalar and tensor quarkonium states are derived. In the absence of free parameters in this case, the results for the charmonium decay widths are consistent with the experimental data. However, in comparison to other theoretical calculations, there are large discrepancies in our results regarding bottomonia.

We report results on the decay B- → DCPK - and its charge conjugate using a data sample of 85.4 × 106 BB pairs recorded at the γ(4S) resonance with the Belle detector at the KEKB asymmetric e+e- storage ring. Ratios of branching fractions of Cabibbo-suppressed to Cabibbo-favored processes are determined to be Β(B- → D0K -)/Β(B- → D0 π-) = 0.077±0.005(stat)±0.006(syst), Β(B- → D 1K-)/Β(B- → D1π - = 0.093 ±0.018(stat)±0.008(syst) and Β(B - → D2K-)/Β(B- → D2 π-) = 0-108±0.019(stat)±0.007(syst) where the indices 1 and 2 represent the CP= + 1 and CP= - 1 eigenstates of the D0-D0 system, respectively. We find the partial-rate charge asymmetries for B- → DCPK- to be A1 =0.06±0.19(stat)±0.04(syst) and A2 = -0.19±0.17(stat)±0.05(syst).

We report the observation of B0 decays to the K+π-π0 final state using a data sample of 78 fb-1 collected by the Belle detector at the KEKB e+e- collider. With no assumptions about intermediate states in the decay, the branching fraction is measured to be (36.6-4.3+4.2±3.0)×10-6. We also search for B decays to intermediate two-body states with the same K+π-π0 final state. Significant B signals are observed in the ρ(770)-K+ and K*(892)+π- channels, with branching fractions of (15.1-3.3-1.5-2.1+3.4+1.4+2.0)×10-6 and (14.8-4.4-1.0-0.9+4.6+1.5+2.4) ×10-6, respectively. The first error is statistical, the second is systematic and the third is due to the largest possible interference. Contributions from other possible two-body states will be discussed. No CP asymmetry is found in the inclusive K+π-π0 or ρ-K+ modes, and we set 90% confidence level bounds on the asymmetry of -0.12
