Optical contrast of a photonic crystal and the self energy shift of the energy levels of atoms

R. Kh. Gainutdinov; M Kh Salakhov; M A Khamadeev

The influence of a photonic crystal medium on the character of the interaction of electrons with their own radiation field is studied. As was recently shown, this influence changes the electromagnetic mass of the electrons in photonic crystals. This alters atomic energy levels. The dependence of this effect on the optical contrast of photonic crystals is studied.

Energy shift experiment in photonic crystal medium

A A Akhmadeev; R. Kh. Gainutdinov; G Hermann; M A Khamadeev; O V Steryakov; M Kh Salakhov

We propose experimental confirmation of the new effect of the electron mass changes in photonic crystal medium, which was recently predicted. The method consists in measuring the Lamb shift in hydrogen atoms placed in the medium of photonic crystal. We discuss the experimental scheme based on the Lamb and Retherford experiment as well as the requirements for the samples of photonic crystals.

Electron rest mass and line spectrum of atoms in the photonic crystal medium

R. Kh. Gainutdinov; M A Khamadeev; M Kh Salakhov

We study a recently predicted novel-type quantum electrodynamical effect that takes place in the photonic crystal medium. It consists in the fact that the modification of the interaction of a charged particle with its own radiation field in the photonic crystal medium results in the change in its mass. Consequences and possible applications of this effect are discussed. It is shown that, as a consequence of the effect, spectrum of the light emitted by atoms may be profoundly modified if, instead of being in free space, atoms are enclosed in air voids of a photonic crystal. Spectral lines of atoms in the photonic crystal medium are shifted in frequency, and this shift may be comparable to the atomic transition frequencies in free space.

An effective equation for describing the decay of an electron-positron vacuum in an intense electromagnetic field

R. Kh. Gainutdinov; A. A. Mutydullina; M A Khamadeev

The instability of an electron-positron vacuum in an intense laser field is studied. An equation describing the decay of the electron-positron vacuum in the focal region of two strong opposing laser beams is derived on the basis of the generalized dynamical equation.

The generalized dynamical equation and the vacuum polarization effect in hydrogenlike atoms

A. A. Vasil’ev; R. Kh. Gainutdinov; Aigul A. Mutygullina

Based on the generalized dynamical equation, vacuum polarization effects are studied within the scope of the bound state theory in quantum electrodynamics. We find a vacuum-polarization correction to the Lamb shift for the 1S state of the hydrogen atom on the order of (α/π)2(Zα)4 that is not considered in the standard theory of bound states in quantum electrodynamics.

The bound states problem in quantum electrodynamics and vacuum polarization effects in muonic atoms

A. A. Vasil’ev; R. Kh. Gainutdinov; Aigul A. Mutygullina; M Kh Salakhov

Quantum electrodynamic bound states in strong electromagnetic fields are considered. It is shown that the dynamics of the system can not be described completely in the adiabatic S-matrix approach. Vacuum polarization effects in muonic atoms are studied using the paradigm of generalized quantum dynamics. This approach leads to additional correction terms.

Lamb shift in atoms interacting with a strong laser field

R. Kh. Gainutdinov; Aigul A. Mutygullina

Radiative corrections to the energy levels of an atom interacting with a strong laser field have been investigated. A formula for the Lamb shift of the laser-dressed states is derived, which makes it possible to calculate this shift with an error up to α2.

Self-energy shift of the energy levels of atomic hydrogen in photonic crystal medium

R. Kh. Gainutdinov; M A Khamadeev; O V Steryakov; K A Ziyatdinova; M Kh Salakhov

Corrections to the average kinetic energy of atomic electrons caused by the change in electron mass in the photonic crystal medium are investigated. Corresponding shift of energy levels of atoms placed in a photonic crystal is shown to be of order of the ordinary Lamb shift.

Effect of environment on the self-interaction of a quantum dot

R. Kh. Gainutdinov; M A Khamadeev; M R Mohebbifar; Aigul A. Mutygullina

The problem of the effect leads have on the self-interaction of a two-level quantum dot is discussed. It is shown that a generalized dynamic equation enables us to discover new effects in the optical spectra of such systems.

Influence of the photonic crystal medium on the self-interaction of electrons

R. Kh. Gainutdinov; M A Khamadeev; M R Mohebbifar; A S Petrova; K A Ziyatdinova; M Kh Salakhov

The self-interaction of an electron in the photonic crystal medium is investigated. We show that modification of the self-interaction of electrons in photonic crystals is very significant and, as a consequence, at some photon frequencies the electron-light interaction becomes effectively strong.
