The goal of this study was to investigate the relationship between media and disclosure and commercialization of Brazilian Paralympic Movement. The research methodology was based on: semistructured interviews with managers of the Brazilian Paralympic Committee about management processes of the paralympic movement and relationship with the media; Data from interviews were analyzed using the Discourse Collective Subject method and reflections based on Pierre Bourdieus categories. RESULTS: the exploitation of the paralympic movement by the Brazilian media is something that can be improved; Paralympic sport does not have a symbolic capital that legitimizes commercially, although it has developed in this regard; To reach better commercial relevance, it may be interesting that the Paralympic movement continues its search process by increasing professionalization and fits the directions proposed by the media. Due to such approach, the exposure of your slope high performance sport might be improved, showing its ability to create idols, produce pleasurable emotions and attract interest of consumers.

Abstract Aquino, R, Munhoz Martins, GH, Palucci Vieira, LH, and Menezes, RP. Influence of match location, quality of opponents and match status on movement patterns in brazilian professional football players. J Strength Cond Res 31(8): 2155–2161, 2017—The aim of this study was to examine the independent and interactive effects of match location, quality of opponents, and match status on the movement patterns in a professional Brazilian football team. Sixteen matches of the fourth division Brazilian Championship of 2015 were analyzed during the competitive stages (classifier, 8 matches; octave-finals, 2 matches; quarterfinals, 2 matches; semifinals, 2 matches; and finals, 2 matches). A 5-Hz Global Positioning System Sports QSTARZ was used to record the total distance (TD), maximum speed (VMAX), average speed (VAVERAGE), and frequency of high-intensity activities (HIA). The Students t-test for independent samples showed significantly higher values (p ⩽ 0.05) of VMAX, VAVERAGE, and HIA in home matches when compared with away matches. Comparing the quality of opponents, statistically higher values of TD, VMAX, and HIA were found when the team played against strong opponents. Regarding match status, 1-way analysis of variance demonstrated that when the team won presented significantly higher values of TD, VMAX, VAVERAGE, and HIA compared with matches when the team lost. There were no substantial interactive effects of match situational variables on movement patterns. Finally, multiple linear regression showed that the variable quality of opponents has a higher relative contribution to the variance in HIA (19%) than match status (16%) and match location (4%). In particular, the results indicate that physical performance in professional football is influenced by match situational variables, resulting in a change in the teams style of play.

For long years the Collective Sports (CS) are considered and analyzed according to the parties that compose them. This reductionist thinking, characterized by the linear relationship between the stimulus and its response, has been undergoing a significant paradigm shift, especially when they are the CS at the center of the analysis. The objective of this research is to present the relations and contributions between the paradigm shift, which is now considered the complexity of the systems and methodologies for the CS teaching, considering some properties of these, like the randomness, the non-linearity and unpredictability.
Sports Coaching Review | 2016

Although the study of sports coaching in Brazil is not a new phenomenon, it has recently witnessed a not insignificant upsurge. Subsequently, this special issue of Sports Coaching Review is a welcome opportunity for some Brazilian researchers to present their work on coaching and coach education. Brazil is a large country, with sizeable cultural diversity and socio-economic inequality, which results in considerable heterogeneity among sports practice contexts. Subsequently, a sociocultural approach to the study of coaching offers much promise as an area of scholarly investigation. This is because it holds the potential to better understand the different contexts within which sports practice is located; differences that include the cultural features of various regions or groups complete with their competencies, preferences and goals. A principal challenge for Brazilian scholars then is to describe and understand this diversity. The subsequent aim of this special issue is to offer an overview of sports coaching studies in Brazil; presenting research in terms of its current condition and future trajectory.

The aim of this study was to analyze teaching methods adopted by six experienced handball under-14 coaches. The coaches were interviewed and the speeches tabulated and analyzed according the method Collective Subject Discourse. Results indicates that coaches prefer teaching through games, also referred to process based on game situations, technical skills and combination of different methods (justified by the diversity of stimuli and the development of different capacities and skills). The conclusion suggests that the coaches’ procedures are guided by general training process and avoid early sport specialization.

Paralympic sport is in a process of economic and social affirmation and the media is the main tool to disseminate it´s ideas and products. Based on concepts of Pierre Bourdieu´s theory, the aim of this study was to investigate the standpoint of Brazilian athletes about contents, ways and scope of media divulgation of Paralympic sport, to purpose reflections about their expectations and perceptions. Supported by data of semi structured interviews, with 23 Brazilian Paralympic athletes and speech analysis by the method Collective Subject Discourse, these are the main results: Paralympic divulgation is still small, but is growing; there is some division among athletes that prefer the divulgation of sporting achievements and the idea of supercrip.

This work analyzes school handball coaches’ academic background and identifies their preferred learning contexts and situations. Eleven school coaches from a city in the Brazilian State of Sao Paulo were interviewed. The semi-structured interview included two main questions: one related to college education (undergraduate and graduate studies) and another one related to different learning contexts. Interviewees reported that undergraduate students play an important role in their training, but were not enough to master the specific knowledge related to their work context. Considering the learning contexts, coaches preferred sources coming from informal contexts – such as their experiences as athletes, conversations with other coaches, and material available online. Coaches also pointed that non-formal contexts were not very relevant to their work.
