Corrida em esteira e exercícios de força: efeitos agudos da ordem de realização sobre a hipotensão pós-exercício

The study analyzed systolic (SBP) and diastolic (DBP) blood pressure after two exercise bouts of concurrent exercise performed in a different order [aerobic-strength (AS), and strength-aerobic (SA)]. Fifteen normotensive subjects were submitted to two exercise bouts performed in different days in the following order: AS and SA. SBP and DBP were measured before and at each 15 min over a 60 min period of post-exercise recovery. Post-exercise hypotension (PEH) was found in SBP at the 30th (-7.4 mmHg), 45th (-12.14 mmHg) and 60th min (-15.14 mmHg) after AS when compared to rest. On SA, PEH was only observed at the 60th min (-8.34 mmHg) of recovery. The analysis of differences for SBP and DBP between both sessions showed greater PEH at the 15th, 45th, and 60th min in SBP; and at the 45th min in DBP after AS when compared to SA. Thus, performing aerobic before strength exercise elicited a higher PEH in young adults.

Variáveis cardiovasculares durante e após a prática do VÍDEO GAME ativo "Dance Dance Revolution" e televisão

Abstract: Cardiovascular diseases (CVDs) are the leading cause of death worldwide and the pathological processes associated with their development in the early childhood. The objective of this study was to investigate the cardiovascular responses during and after the practice of video game interactive and television. The sample consisted of eight healthy children (9.8 ± 0.5 years, 30.1 ± 3.4 kg, 133.3 cm ± 13.6, 17.4 ± 4.7 kg/m 2 ). The study consisted of three sessions, where the 1st was FAM – for anthropometric measurement and procedures familiarization, and the other sessions, were performed in randomized order; DDR - Dance Dance Revolution: the volunteers realized 30 min in the beginner level; TV - 30 min watching a children’s cartoon (Ben 10 and Sponge Bob). The heart rate (HR), systolic (SBP) and diastolic (DBP) blood pressure were measured at rest and during the 10th, 20th and 30th minutes of activity and recovery in the 2nd 10th, 20th, 30th and 40th min. Statistical analysis was checked for normal distribution of data by Kolgomorov-Smirnov test, ANOVA, one-way MANOVA with post hoc Scheffe for comparison between sessions, ANOVA repeated measures, comparing the times of each session. The significance level was p ≤ 0.05 (ESTATISTICA 6.0). The results show a significant rise in HR, SBP and MAP during the DDR (30min: 110bpm, 116.3 and 89.6 mmHg) compared to the TV (30min: 86.7 bpm, 102 mmHg and 70.3mmHg). There was a downward trend in HR and SBP at 40 min of recovery after session DDR, as well as an upward trend in HR, SBP, DBP, and MAP after TV when compared to the rest, but these were not significant (p>0,05). We conclude that video game is an interesting alternative of active playing, which might bring cardiovascular benefits. If these BP values be maintained throughout the day during childhood, we may expect a better health during adulthood what, in turn, may be important for public health.

The period of the day affects the twenty-four hour blood pressure response to an acute combined exercise session in Brazilian jiu jitsu athletes

The purpose of this study was to compare the effect of a combined exercise session performed at different periods of the day on the 24h blood pressure (BP) response. Anaerobic threshold (AT) and 12 repetition maximum (12RM) tests were evaluated in nine Brazilian jiu-jitsu athletes (male) (22±3.7 y; 176±5.0 cm; 73.4±9.7 kg; 6.8±2.1 % body fat). Four experimental sessions were performed: resistance exercise followed by aerobic exercise [Morning (MornS) and Afternoon (AfternS)] and Control (C) [Morning and Afternoon]. The morning sessions were conducted at 09:00 a.m. and the afternoon sessions were conducted at 3:00 p.m. The resistance exercise consisted of three sets at 90% of a 12RM for six resistance exercises. The aerobic exercise consisted of 15min at 90% of the AT. Blood pressure (BP) was measured before, during and 1h (Microlife(r) BP3A1C) after the performance of exercises in laboratory, and then during daily activities for the succeeding 23h by ambulatory BP monitoring (Dyna-MAPA(r)). Analysis of the area under the curve (AUC) indicated significant reductions in blood pressure parameters at various time points during the 24h monitoring period. For systolic BP (SBP), significantly lower values were shown following the morning session versus the control (MornS: 1756.2±100.8 vs. C: 1818.2±84.3 mmHg*15h; p < .05) and total-24h (MornS: 2695.8±143.3 vs. C: 2784.1±143.2 mmHg*24h; p < .05). The total-24h mean BP (MAP) was also significantly lower following the morning session versus the control (MornS: 2015.7±121.2 vs. C: 2087.3±153.8 mmHg*24h; p < .05). There were significant differences in the sleeping AUC of SBP (AfternS: 883.6±27.0 vs. C: 965.2±67.9 mmHg*9h; p< .05), diastolic BP (DBP) (AfternS: 481.4±30.9 vs. MornS: 552.9±34.2 and C: 562.1±52.3 mmHg*9h; p < .01) and MBP (AfternS: 651.9±22.4 vs. MornS: 708.7±43.1 and C: 726.9±64.7 mmHg*9h; p < .01). The combined exercise performed at different periods of the day contributed distinctly to the reduction of BP. The morning session was important in reducing SBP and MBP in the total-24h monitoring, while the afternoon session reduced SBP, DBP and MBP during sleeping in jiu-Jitsu athletes.

Diferentes ordens do exercício combinado: efeitos agudos de 24 horas sobre a pressão arterial de atletas

To verify 24-hour blood pressure (BP) responses in young adults after different orders of aerobic (AE) and resistance exercises (RE). Anaerobic threshold (AT) and strength (12 RM) were evaluated in ten healthy men (22.6 ± 3.7yrs; 70.3 ± 5.8 kg; 175.9 ± 5.8 cm). Four experimental sessions: Aerobic + Resistance (AR); Resistance + Aerobic (RA); Concurrent circuit (CC) and control day (CO) were randomly performed. All sessions had the same duration and intensity, AE: 15 min at 90% of AT; ER: 15 min at 90% of 12 RM with 12 reps (6 exercises). BP was measured before, during and 1 h (Microlife® BP3A1C) after performing exercises in the laboratory and 23 h during daily activities using ambulatory blood pressure measurement (Dyna-MAPA®). Systolic BP (SBP) in 24 h and awake periods, and Diastolic BP (DBP) in 24 h, sleep and awake periods, and Mean BP in awake period were lower in RA session compared with CO session with moderate to high effect size (d de Cohen = -0.46/-0.78). The DBP area under the curve in RA was lower than CO in awake (1004 ± 82 vs. 1065 ± 107; p < 0.047) and 24 h (1456 ± 103 vs. 1528 ± 132; p < 0.026) periods. The SBP delta were lower in RA at 0-1 h (-12.0 mmHg), 2-3h (-16.5 mmHg), 6-7 h (-19.4 mmHg) and 10-11 h (-13.0 mmHg) compared with CO; lower in AR at 4-5h (-19.2 mmHg) and 6-7 h (-20.2 mmHg) compared with CO; and lower in CC at 2-3h (-15.6 mmHg) and 6-7 h (-17.5 mmHg) compared with CO. The DBP was lower at 4-5 h (-14.0 mmHg) in RA compared with CO. After performing RA exercises, there were greater decreases in BP during 24 h in young adults.

Efeitos da alternância entre exercícios aeróbicos e resistência exercício em diferentes sessões de exercício concorrente em respostas pressão arterial de atletas: um estudo randomizado

O exercicio aerobico (AE) e exercicios resistidos (ER) tem demonstrado beneficios na prevencao e/ou controle da pressao arterial (PA), embora as influencias destes dois modelos de exercicios (exercicio concorrente) em uma unica sessao sobre a PA ainda sao desconhecidos. Desta forma, o objetivo do presente estudo foi verificar os efeitos da alternância entre EA e ER em diferentes sessoes de exercicios concorrente sobre as respostas da PA. Participaram do estudo 10 jovens atletas do sexo masculino (22,6 ± 3,78 anos, 70,3 ± 5,89 kg, 175,96 ± 5,83 centimetros, 6,8 ± 2,38 % de gordura corporal). Os testes consistiram de quatro protocolos randomizados, sendo a sessao AR composta por EA seguido do ER, a sessao RA por ER seguido do EA (AR), a sessao circuito (CC) (ER e EA alternando de forma intermitente ) e a sessao de controle (CO) (sem exercicio) . EA foi realizado em uma esteira a 90% do lactato minimo indireto e o ER foi realizado em forma de circuito a 90% de 12 RM, alternado por segmento em seis exercicios. A PA foi mensurada em todos os protocolos, durante o momento repouso e no periodo de recuperacao pos-exercicio (REP). Observou-se uma reducao da pressao arterial sistolica (PAS) aos 45 e 60 minutos de recuperacao do protocolo RA em relacao aos valores pre-exercicio. A PA diastolica e media nao apresentaram diferencas significativas. A sessao RA foi mais eficaz em demonstrar respostas hipotensoras em relacao aos outros protocolos experimentais.

Comparison of prevalence of methods of weight loss pre-competition in different categories

Judo athletes often use in previous periods of competitions, methods for rapid weight loss. This purpose of this practice is benefit the athlete, competing in a lower weight category and tries to regain weight in a short space of time between the weigh-in and competition. However, the use of this practice without professional supervision may be harmful to the health of the athlete. Objective: Investigate the methods and strategies used for weight loss in judo competitors at the national level and different categories. Methods: 60 athletes the national levels, male and female, of different ages (juvenile, junior, senior and master) answered a questionnaire regarding the use or not of methods for weight loss and what are the strategies loss weight often used in the pre-competition period. Results: 80% (juvenile), 69.6% (junior), 88.9% (senior) and 100% (master) use methods of weight loss pre-competition, and 70% (juvenile), 69.6% (junior), 77.8% (senior) and 77.7% (master) reported their performance impaired by the use of these strategies. Conclusion: We found that a much higher judo athletes from different age categories, makes use of methods or strategies for rapid weight loss. This fact has shown a direct deleterious effect on the physical and emotional performance of athletes during competitions.
