Occupational fatigue in healthcare nurses, which has multifaceted issues, is associated with decreased patient safety and the quality of nursing care. The aim of this study was to investigate the nurses fatigue problem in sub-unit healthcare based on their perceptual experience. Interviews were conducted and analyzed utilizing a direct qualitative content analysis approach using NVivo Software and guided by Model of System Engineering Initiative for Patient Safety (SEIPS). The findings of this research were a steering on what nurses perceive as contributing and preventing to fatigue which are likewise arranged in SEIPS model. It was shown that a macro ergonomic approach is valuable for understanding complexities of work systems, even though it is a small unit organization.

Work-related musculoskeletal disorders are one of the greatest occupational health concern today. Awkward working posture is a physical factor identified in occupational musculoskeletal injuries. As shown in the polishing process, workers must perform in awkward postures like stooping and squatting to reach the entire surface of the product. This study aims to determine how much risk arising from polishing process and propose improvements to it. Nordic Body Map Questionnaires is used to indicate the discomfort of the polishing working process. Rapid Entire Body Assessment (REBA) selected to provide postural analysis of observational assessment quickly and easily for whole activities (static and dynamic). Assessment of the working posture indicates a high level of risk to the value of REBA score of 9 to 10 and the action level 3, which means that it needs immediate improvement. Application simulation tools in the process showed a decrease in the level of risk shown by assessment scores REBA be 2 to 3 which indicates the level of risk is low. It can be concluded that this tool could be used as alternative solutions to reduce the risk of workplace improvements polishing process.

Gas Spring is an important component of an energy storing prosthetic knee. The spring stored energy during flexion and released the energy while in the extension. In this research, we discuss a Monte Carlo simulation model of a gas spring in an Energy Storing Prosthetic Knee (ESPK) using Oracle Crystal Ball software. The simulation is used to predict the effects of three important design variables of a gas spring which are cylinder diameter, cylinder length, and displacement to the energy storing performance of the spring. The results of simulation show that there are two design variables which have significant contribution to the variations of energy storing performance: cylinder diameter and displacement. Those design variables account for 99.3% to the total variance of energy storing. Quality improvement must be conducted to lowering the resulted energy storing variance. We proportionally decrease the variance of the design variables to lowering the energy storing variance. The simulation results show a significant quality improvement of about 50% in term of energy storing standard deviation. The results also show that cylinder diameter is more sensitive than the other two design variables in energy storing quality improvement.

Improving the work position of worker based on manual material handling in rice mill industry

Rahmaniyah Dwi Astuti; Susy Susmartini; Ade Putri Kinanthi

In traditional industries still using manual material handling to weight lifting. Worker at the rice mill, especially in rice filtering activity has wrong ergonomic posture to enforce the body bends and carried loads too heavy cause of injury for lower back and waist. The work attitude is unnatural posture. This study aimed to determine the severity of the workload, the level of risk posed to the rice taking activities and suggested as an improvement to it. Identify the operator complaints used Nordic Body Map method. Rapid Entire Body Assessment (REBA) method is used to provide an assessment of the working posture of the operator. Assessment of the working posture on rice filtering process shows that REBA score is 12 with an explanation very high level of risk and action level is 4 which means the action needs to be repaired immediately. Biomechanics calculation shows result 6713.21 N, the result of the calculation of the biomechanics of worker in the rice filtering activities indicates that the activiti...

Using NASA task load index and Maslach burnout inventory for evaluating the subjective mental and physical workload of nurse central surgical installation hospitals Karanganyar

Irwan Iftadi; Rahmaniyah Dwi Astuti; Meilani Rosita

The installation of the Sentral surgical nurse is on duty for medical personnel stationed provide health services to the community. The workload that was given to the installation of the Sentral surgical nurse very fluctuating depending on the patients condition as well as the type of surgery that is done. The workload associated with the pressure that comes from the boss and family parties pertaining to patient safety will be and the success of an operation, which it was feared would result in decreased productivity and stress due to workload is mental, physically, and emotionally. This prolonged stress can lead to fatigue physical, mental, and emotional that can terminate the occurrence of burnout in nurses. This study was completed using the physical workload measurement methods with% CVL, mental workload using the NASA-TLX, and measurements of burnout with the Maslach Burnout Inventory. The results showed that the installation of the Sentral surgical nurse Karanganyar Hospital levels of burnout is low to moderate. Average physical workload experienced by low-and-medium category entry. Meanwhile, the mental burden experienced by nurses entered the category of high and very high. The purpose of doing research is to know the magnitude of the mental and physical workload and burnout levels experienced nurse Sentral surgical installation to improve productivity.

Redesigning Manual Wheelchair for Disabled Children Using Anthropometry Data and Biomechanical Analysis

Susy Susmartini; Rahmaniyah Dwi Astuti; Tri Mustikasari; Cucuk Nur Rosyidi

Wheelchair is an important equipment to assist people with lower body disability to move from one place to another. The aim of this research is to redesigning manual wheelchair for disabled children using anthropometry data and biomechanical analysis. Anthropometry data is used to determine the dimensions of the wheelchair, while the biomechanical analysis is used to compare the performance of the existing and proposed design. This research resulted a new design which gives more comfort to the users and used a lever mechanism to move the wheelchair. The results of biomechanical analysis show that the force to move the proposed wheelchair is larger than the existing one. It makes more loads are given to the elbow and shoulder of the users. Better performance is shown by the proposed design in the reaction force in neck and lumbar which will reduce the complaining pain of the users in their back.
