Modeling of the generalized unified power flow controller for optimal power flow

The latest generation of FACTS devices, the convertible static compensator (CSC) [1], is the progress of several innovative operating concepts in the historic development and application FACTS. One of the concepts is the GUPFC or multi-line UPFC have been done, which can control bus voltage and power flows of more than one line or according to even a sub-network. The GUPFC should have stronger control capability than the UPFC. In this paper it derived to pile up a novel concept of a mathematical model for the GUPFC consisting of one shunt converter and two or more series converters based on voltage source converter (VSCs) and DC link capacitor is developed and implemented in the nonlinear predictor-corrector primal-dual interior-point OPF algorithm. Numerical results with various GUPFC devices based on the IEEE 30 bus power system demonstrate the feasibility as well as the effectiveness of the GUPFC model established in the OPF method.

Modeling and simulation of generalized unified power flow controller (GUPFC)

This paper presents the establishment of a linearised Pillips-Heffron model of a power system installed with a generalized unified power flow controller (GUPFC) for a specific case in the single machine infinite bus (SMIB) system where the lines have no equal reactance. On the basis of the linearised, the damping function of the GUPFC is investigated. The basic issues on the design of the GUPFC damping controller are discussed, regarding the effectiveness and robustness of the damping function of the GUPFC, among which the selection of effective and robust input control signal of the GUPFC to superimpose its damping function where it is specially addressed. Furthermore it becomes one of the most important FACTS controller and new, which adds the GUPFC into the category of the unified model with the same methods. An example power system is presented, in the SMIB, where its performance more robust than the unified power flow controller (UPFC).

Fungsi Peredaman UPFC pada Sistem tenaga Listrik Mesin Tunggal Bus Tak Berhingga

Susunan umum UPFC terdiri dari dua buah konverter sumber tegangan yang terhubung melalui sebuah kapasitor penghubung DC. satu konverter terhubung secara pararel dan lainnya terhubung secara seri terhadap gardu saluran transmisi. UPFC umumnya terletak pada jaringan transmisi yang membutuhkan daya reaktif, dengan tugas utama menjadi kendali aliran daya. Fungsi sekunder dapat memperbaiki stabilitas transien terhadap tegangan yang sangat cepat. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui peluahan dari UPFC dalam koordinasi dengan Power Oscillation damping (POD) Controlled dalam Single Machine Infinite Bus (SIMB) dengan Power System Stabilizer (PSS). Dengan adanya UPFC dalam sistem yang ada yang dilengkapi PSS dalam pembangkit (generator), dapat memberikan dinamika dan stabilitas perbaikan sistem, pengaturan kepresisian parameter pengendali POD dilaksanakan dengan tujuan untuk mendapatkan sebuah nilai parameter yang baik dan sesuai.

Digital simulation of the FACTS system with 60-pulse GTO-based Voltage Source Converter

The Flexible AC Transmission System (FACTS) controller devices based Voltage Source Converter (VSC) for shunt and series compensation, allocated in a substation, among the multiline transmission systems is presented in this paper. The paper proposes the full model comprising of the 60-pulse Gate Turn-Off (GTO) thyristor VSC that is constructed becomes the FACTS devices in digital simulation system and investigates the dynamic operation of control scheme for shunt and two series VSC for active and reactive power compensation and voltage stabilization of the electric grid network. The complete digital simulation of the shunt VSC operating as a Static Synchronous Compensator (STATCOM) controlling voltage and Var at bus, the series VSC operating as a Static Synchronous Series Capacitor (SSSC) controlling injected voltage while keeping injected voltage in quadrature with current, the two series VSCs operating as a Interline Power Flow Controller (IPFC) controlling injected voltage for power flow and the shunt VSC with the one series VSC operating as a Unified Power Flow Controller (UPFC) within the power system are performed in the MATLAB/Simulink environment using the Power System Blockset (PSB). The FACTS control system scheme and the network are modeled by specific electric blocks from the power system blockset. The controllers for the shunt VSC and two series VSCs are presented in this paper based on the decoupled current control strategy. The performance of the proposed FACTS device schemes connected to the 500-kV grid are evaluated and fully validated by digital simulation.
