Integration of LEDs in forward lighting

Luca Sardi; Ralf Ackermann

In the last years the application of LEDs for automotive signaling functions has become even more important making feasible a wide variety of stylistic and technical solutions. Nevertheless, the continuous improving of white LEDs performances seems to be suitable for the application of these sources also for the headlamp main functions. In this paper different solutions will be shown and discussed, with particular attention to the optical design issue as well as to the electronic and thermal management.

LED in headlamps

Michael Hamm; Ralf Ackermann

One of the most popular themes in studies and showcars of last year’s automobile expositions was headlamps and rear lamps equipped with Light Emitting Diodes (LEDs). Just about every automotive manufacturer presented innovations with new styling faces that had only been made possible with new LED technologies. The current technological challenge is to find reliable series solutions integrating the underlying LED functionality with the stylistic aspects of the new eyes of the car. Headlamp and rear lamp supplier Automotive Lighting in Reutlingen has implemented some of the most interesting ideas in close-to-series prototypes.

LED im Scheinwerfer. Revolution in Design und Technik

Michael Hamm; Ralf Ackermann
