Abstract Ten 9-amino-1,2,3,4-tetrahydroacridinediols were prepared as potential mono -hydroxy metabolites of velnacrine. They were tested for acute toxicity as well as for their ability to inhibit acetylcholinesterase in vitro and to reverse scopolamine-induced memory impairment in mice.

Abstract The pinacol coupling of R(+)3-methylcyclohexanone gives a product distribution dependent on the mode of coupling . Similar changes in product composition are also seen in the coupling of 4-methylcyclohexanone and in the mixed coupling of 3-methylcyclohexanone with cyclohexanone. In all cases studied , the [Al-Hg] method results in products having an axial methyl group. An X-ray structure of a product containing two axial methyl groups is presented.

The title compounds (R = Me, Et, Ph) are synthesized from ketones in high yield, structurally characterized, and shown to undergo highly stereoselective nucleophilic attack; secondary alcohols can be made with 95 to 99% enantiomeric excess (e.e.)

Abstract The inorganic constituents of coal remaining after high temperature combustion in a MHD (Magnetohydrodynamic) power plant combustor form an iron-rich, “dirty” glass whose electrical properties are important in the operation of the MHD generator. In particular, alkali “seed” (K2CO3) is added to enhance the conductivity of the plasma so the slag layer which coats the walls and electrodes of the generator is rich in K2O. We present results of a systematic study of the electrical conductivity of a Rosebud coal ash with graded amounts of K2CO3 added. At high temperatures, the conductivity curves are smooth with many ions contributing. At lower temperatures the curves become more complex with the presence of crystalline phases in the glass.

Abstract The single crystal X-ray crystallographic analysis and absolute configuration has been completed for pyrethrosin, C17H22O5. the compound crystallizes in the tetregonal space group, P43212 (or P41212) with Z=8. the experimental unit cell constants at room temperature are: a=b=8.0662(5), c=49.836(4)a, α=β=γ=90°, V=3242.5(4)a3. the final R value=0.0415.
