Variations in hematologic parameters are used to assess the degree of training or clinical state of the animal. The hematologic evaluation of horses at rest has been an object of study in order to establish a correlation with training or athletic capacity. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the hematologic profile of horses subjected to Team Penning competitions, correlating sex and frequency of physical activity. Two milliliters of blood were drawn through a puncture made in the external jugular vein from 29 horses, 18 males and 11 females, at rest (Moment I) and after exercising (Moment II). The blood samples were processed in an ABC VET automated veterinary hematology analyzer (Horiba ABX Diagnostics). The animals were divided into Group A, B, C and D according to the number of times they participated in the competition. The values of globular volume, hemoglobin, erythrocytes, rod-shaped segmented neutrophils and monocytes increased after the physical exercise, unlike the number of lymphocytes and eosinophils, which decreased. A comparison of the before/after exercise correlations showed no significant differences (p<0.05) between males and females. In addition, it was found that the value of the MI/MII ratio for the globular volume, hemoglobin and number of erythrocytes varied according to the frequency of the exercise. It was concluded that the Team Penning competition produces hematologic alterations in horses, which are affected by the frequency of exercising, regardless of sex.

A fim de avaliar o perfil de proteinas sericas, metabolitos, minerais e enzimas sericas e correlacionar com o sexo das aves, este estudo analisou 30 avestruzes de quatro dias de idade. Os valores obtidos foram: proteinas totais 3,59±0,72g/dL; albumina 1,04±0,14g/dL; globulinas 2,51±0,56g/dL; relacao A:G 0,43± 0,07; colesterol total 615,10±101,15mg/dL; lipoproteina de alta densidade colesterol (HDL-C) 132,72±20,33mg/dL; lipoproteina de baixa densidade colesterol (LDL-C) 454,93±90,81mg/dL; lipoproteina de muito baixa densidade colesterol (VLDL-C) 27,45±9,96 mg/dL; triglicerides 137,23±49,78mg/dL; acido urico 6,24±2,15mg/dL; ureia 18,27±12,33mg/dL; creatinina 0,30±0,04mg/dL; calcio total 9,38±0,76mg/dL; calcio ionizado 7,17±0,64mg/dL; fosforo 6,96±0,91mg/dL; relacao Ca:P 1,37±0,21; ferro 24,74±13,02µg/dL; sodio 142,03±6,17mEq/L; cloretos 109,59±4,99mEq/L; aspartato aminotransferase (AST) 200,67±31,42 U/L; alanina aminotransferase (ALT) 3,90±1,92 U/L; γ-glutamiltransferase (GGT) 1,18±0,73 U/L; fosfatase alcalina (ALP) 597,30± 231,36 U/L; e creatina quinase (CK) 2348,30±755,60 U/L. Diferencas significativas existiram para proteinas totais, globulinas, fosfatase alcalina, relacao A:G e acido urico entre machos e femeas.

Para determinar as concentracoes plasmaticas de proteinas e metabolitos de cascaveis em cativeiro, foram utilizadas 60 serpentes adultas, sendo 30 machos e 30 femeas. O sangue foi coletado atraves de puncao do seio venoso paravertebral cervical e armazenado em tubos com heparina. As analises bioquimicas foram processadas colorimetricamente em Analisador Automatico de Bioquimica Chemwell (Awareness Technology®, Inc). Foram calculadas as medias e desvios padrao dos seguintes constituintes: proteinas totais, albumina, globulinas, relacao albumina/globulinas, acido urico, creatinina, ureia, colesterol, colesterol HDL e triglicerides. Os valores obtidos foram semelhantes aos descritos na literatura para repteis e serpentes, sendo as diferencas observadas provavelmente decorrentes da diferenca entre especies, clima, estacao do ano e metodologia utilizada. Nao houve diferencas significativas entre machos e femeas para os parâmetros estudados. Estes resultados podem ser uteis no estabelecimento de valores de referencia para planos de conservacao destes ofidios em cativeiro.
