Enterprises have to be increasingly agile and responsive to address the challenges posed by the fast moving market. With the software architecture evolving into service-oriented architecture, and the adoption of Radio Frequency Identification (RFID), event processing can fit well in enterprise information systems in terms of facilitation of event aggregation into high level actionable information, and event response to improve the responsiveness. To make it more applicable, the architecture of event processing in enterprise information systems is proposed; event meta model is put forth, and the rules are defined. To improve the detect efficiency, classification and partition of event instance is utilized. We have implemented the event processing mechanism in enterprise information systems based on RFID, including the data structures, optimization strategies and algorithm that is considered as one of the contributions. The performance evaluations show that the method is effective in terms of scalability and the capability of event processing. Complex event processing can improve operation efficiency and discover more actionable information, which is justified by the application.

This paper involves the multi-mode capital-constrained project payment scheduling problem, where the objective is to assign activity modes and payments so as to maximize the net present value (NPV) of the contractor under the constraint of capital availability. In the light of different payment patterns adopted, four optimization models are constructed using the event-based method. For the NP-hardness of the problem, metaheuristics, including tabu search and simulated annealing, are developed and compared with multi-start iterative improvement and random sampling based on a computational experiment performed on a data set generated randomly. The results indicate that the loop nested tabu search is the most promising procedure for the problem studied. Moreover, the effects of several key parameters on the contractor’s NPV are investigated and the following conclusions are drawn: The contractor’s NPV rises with the increase of the contractor’s initial capital availability, the payment number, the payment proportion, or the project deadline; the contractor has a decreasing marginal return as the contractor’s initial capital availability goes up; the contractor’s NPVs under the milestone event based payment pattern are not less than those under the other three payment patterns.

A recognition and classification method of multiple moving objects in traffic based on the combination of the Biomimetic Pattern Recognition (BPR) and Choquet Integral (CI) is proposed. The recognition process consists of three stages. At the first stage, vehicles and pedestrians are detected in video images and the area, the shape and the velocity features are obtained by classical methods. At the second stage, BPR is used to classify the Zernike moments extracted at the first stage. At the last stage, CI is then adopted for multi-features fusion based on the output of BPR, and the area and the velocity features obtained at the first stage to improve the recognition accuracy. Experiment results show that this approach is efficient.

In modern times, the competitions between enterprises are actually the ones between supply chains. Adequate Information sharing is one of the key factors which will highly improve the efficiency of supply chain. The cooperation models of supply chain are modeled and analyzed, and a two-dimensional enterprise symbiosis model is set up to analyze the symbiosis behaviors between enterprises and the symbiosis energy functions of the model to realize that how the enterprises get their competition advantage by supply chain. According to the analysis, the importance of suitable information sharing to supply chain is obvious. Moreover, a two-dimensional enterprise information sharing model is built to express how the information sharing affects the efficiency of supply chain. To different symbiosis models, the enterprises should share different rank information to meet the demand of symbiosis. The article gives a guideline to enterprises in supply chain that how to make information sharing strategy to get a satisfactory works efficiency at a low information sharing risk rank.

An agent-based model is constructed to study the effects of individual irrationality and network structure on collective performance. We find that individual irrationality and network density are the most influential factors. Moderate degree of irrationality results in moderate knowledge unity and superior quality of knowledge; increasing network connections or decreasing average path length (APL) can promote quality of knowledge integration and knowledge unity. Furthermore, APL is more influential than clustering coefficient and centralization (CE). Less clustering may contribute to higher quality of knowledge integration, while higher CE may contribute to higher knowledge unity.

This chapter deals with a special resource-constrained multi-mode net present value problem, i.e., the capital-constrained multi-mode project payment scheduling problem where the objective is to assign activity modes and payments so as to maximize the net present value (NPV) of the contractor under the capital constraint. With the different payment patterns adopted, four optimization models are constructed using the event-based method. Metaheuristics, including tabu search and simulated annealing, are developed and compared with other two simple heuristics based on a computational experiment performed on a data set generated randomly. The results indicate that the loop nested tabu search is the most promising procedure for the problem studied. Moreover, the effects of key parameters on the NPV are studied and the following conclusions are drawn: The NPV rises with the increase of the initial capital availability, the payment number, the payment proportion, or the project deadline; the marginal return decreases as the initial capital availability goes up; the NPVs under the milestone event based payment pattern are not less than those under the other three payment patterns.

This paper analyzes the game process of the R&D investment decision-making of asymmetry firms. The research results indicate that under the incomplete patent system, either the large-sized knowledge-based enterprises or the small-sized knowledge-based enterprises will lose their motivation for R&D investment. Under the complete patent system, the large-sized enterprises have the fundamental motility to carry out R&D investment, while the small-sized ones have the intention of cooperation and innovation in R&D. This conclusion is of stronger policy effects.

This paper summarizes the recent researches on uncertain project scheduling problems. The literatures of the proactive project scheduling problems are presented firstly. Then we review the achievements of the reactive project scheduling problems. According to the methods of dealing with uncertain information, the developments of the stochastic project scheduling problems and the fuzzy project scheduling problems are described respectively. Ultimately, the paper is sumed up and the directions for further research in this field are indicated.

This paper uses the dissipative structure theory to generate fresh insights that may help enterprises better understand and manage the EIS, Because the EIS fundamental structure embodies many characteristics of dissipative system which balance ‘chaos’ with ‘order’, the paper analyzes EIS under the non-equilibrium management entropy model and points out the importance of introducing negative entropy into the EIS for the first time. Two suggestion of building extended EIS and component-based system was made for the future developments of EIS.

This paper first illuminate the literature survey of the EIS and Grid research, and then introduces the Grid conception. Then the paper establishes a system topology Structure description. In the topology structure used the host and subsidiary node conception, based on the topology structure, the EIS information integration frame structure based on Grid is established. The paper gives a detailed description of the structure. Then the paper conceived the safety EIS access mode. At last, the paper sums up the advantages of the using grid technology into EIS information integration.
