Palinologia de níveis do Holoceno da Planície Costeira do Rio Grande do Sul (localidade de Passinhos), Brasil

Este trabalho apresenta os resultados da analise palinologica de 51 amostras obtidas em um testemunho de sondagem de 270 cm de espessura, realizado na localidade de Passinhos, municipio de Osorio, Planicie Costeira do Rio Grande do Sul, Brasil. Ao longo do perfil foram selecionadas tres amostras para datacao com 14C e a mais basal forneceu uma idade de 10.600±90 anos A.P. Foram identificados 71 palinomorfos, agrupados conforme seus respectivos habitos e/ou habitats e tratados estatisticamente de modo a fornecer diagramas polinicos de porcentagem e concentracao. As quatro zonas palinologicas identificadas evidenciam a gradativa colmatacao de um lago e as mudancas vegetacionais dai decorrentes e, finalmente, os efeitos da colonizacao humana. Permitiram, ainda, sua correlacao com dados anteriores, obtidos em outras areas da Planicie Costeira. Palavras-chave: Palinologia, Holoceno, Rio Grande do Sul, Brasil.

Fungos, criptógamas e outros palinomorfos holocênicos (7908+-30 anos AP-atual) da planície costeira sul-catarinense, Brasil

This paper presents the results of a palynological analysis carried out on two cores taken from the south Coastal Plain of the Santa Rosa do Sul and Sao Joao do Sul municipalities, in the state of Santa Catarina. A basal sample from the Santa Rosa do Sul core furnished a 14C age of 7908±33 yr BP, from the Lower Holocene. Palynological analysis of the material allowed for taxonomic identifications, and resulted in descriptions and illustrations of 54 palynomorphs related to fungi (21), algae (5), acritarchs (1), incertae sedis (1), bryophytes (2), ferns (15), gymnosperm pollen (2) and other palynomorphs (1 bryophyte capsule, 4 invertebrate fragments, and 2 indeterminate palynoforaminifers), which express different ecological patterns. This work aimed to contribute to the knowledge of the plant and fungal fossils remains, and related taxa, recorded from the Coastal Plain of Santa Catarina for the Holocene. Additional palynological analyses will contribute to paleoclimate and paleoenvironmental interpretations of this portion of the Brazilian coast.

Grãos de pólen de angiospermas do Holoceno (7908±30 anos AP-atual) da Planície Costeira sul-catarinense, Brasil

This paper presents palinotaxonomic descriptions, from a pollen analysis of sediments from two cores taken from the southern Coastal Plain of Santa Catarina State (in the municipalities of Santa Rosa do Sul and Sao Joao do Sul). A basal sample from the Santa Rosa do Sul and Sao Joao do Sul had a 14C age of 7908±33 and 7817±41 yr BP for the Lower Holocene, respectively. Sixty-two types of pollen grains were described from 49 angiosperm families, which are associated with different habitats and ecological habits. This work is published in association with Part I, which comprises palinotaxonomic descriptions of fungi, cryptogams and other palynomorphs recovered from the sediments, and contributes to the identification of vegetation that occurred on the Coastal Plain of southern Santa Catarina during the Holocene. Palinotaxonomic analyses form the basis of paleoclimatic and paleoenvironmental interpretations in this region of the Brazilian coast.

Grãos de pólen e esporos do Vale do Rio Caí, nordeste do Rio Grande do Sul, Brasil: descrições morfológicas e implicações paleoecológicas

A analise de formas atuais de graos de polen e esporos e sua posterior organizacao em uma colecao de referencia foram realizadas com as especies mais comuns de plantas do Vale do Rio Cai, sul do Brasil. Este procedimento objetiva o conhecimento dos aspectos morfologicos desses materiais, para facilitar as comparacoes com graos dispersos em sedimentos do final do Cenozoico e propiciar reconstituicoes paleoecologicas e paleoclimaticas. Os graos de polen foram selecionados entre os que melhor representam as distintas formacoes vegetacionais presentes, Floresta Ombrofila Mista, Floresta Estacional Decidual, Floresta Estacional Semidecidual e Estepe (Campos) e receberam tratamento previo com o metodo de acetolise. Sao apresentadas as medidas, a descricao e a ilustracao das 93 formas identificadas, das quais 63 sao ineditas para o Estado do Rio Grande do Sul, atestando a carencia de dados e estudos polinicos regionais. Catálogo palinológico em sedimentos do final do Neógeno no Estado do Rio Grande do Sul (Guaíba e Capão do Leão), Brasil. Taxonomia – Parte IV: Magnoliophyta I (Magnoliopsida)

Este trabalho apresenta os resultados obtidos a partir da analise palinologica qualitativa em sedimentos do final do Quaternario nas localidades de Guaiba e Capao do Leao, leste do Rio Grande do Sul, Brasil. Sao descritos e ilustrados 31 palinomorfos relativos a Magnoliophyta (Magnoliopsida) provenientes de depositos paludosos. Indicam uma diversidade de graos de polen cujas formas modernas relacionadas expressam diferentes habitos de vida e estratos da floresta. O conjunto demonstra, igualmente, a presenca de diferentes contextos ecologicos e de paisagem para os momentos finais do Quaternario nestas regioes, com areas mais fechadas de mata, de campo mais aberto e ambientes palustres. Muitos dos taxons presentes crescem hoje nos solos litolicos dos morros de Porto Alegre, enquanto outros constituem parte da cobertura vegetal da propria planicie costeira, como, por exemplo, nas restingas e nos banhados do Taim e Domingos Petrolini, e nas restingas. Moluscos holocênicos em sedimentos lagunares associados à barreira arenosa da Pinheira-Guarda-Gamboa, Santa Catarina: implicações paleoambientais

This paper documents the occurrence of mollusk carbonate fossils in sediments of the backbarrier of the Pinheira-Guarda- -Gamboa beaches, Santa Catarina Coastal Plain, southern Brazil, in which five species of gastropods and nine of bivalves were recognized. Among the bivalves, four species were articulated, Ostrea equestris , Anomalocardia brasiliana , Lucina pectinata and Tagelus plebeius , and the last three were found in life position. Radiocarbon datings were performed on articulate and life position specimens: Lucina pectinata, indicating a conventional age of 5.260 ± 30 years BP. (calibrate age 5.620 - 5.440), Tagelus plebeius , 5.620 ± 30 years BP. (calibrate age 6.000 - 5.840) and Ostrea equestris articulate, 5.410 ± 30 years BP. (calibrate age 5.805 - 5.580), indicating the material in the middle Holocene. The topographic data gathered with precision equipment established that the top of the outcrop is 2 m above the relative sea-level. The fossil association suggests lagoon-estuarine environment subsequently filled in response to a lowering of the sea level.

Morfologia polínica de espécies epífitas de Cactaceae Juss. do Rio Grande do Sul, Brasil

In this paper, we studied the pollen morphology of 11 species of epiphytic Cactaceae family in Rio Grande do Sul, southern Brazil. We provide descriptions, measurements, photomicrographs, as well as information on ecology and biogeography. The pollen grains are variable in size (medium, large and giant) with prolate-spheroidal to prolate forms; 3-colpate aperture ( Lepismium cruciforme (Vell.) Miq. and Rhipsalis cereuscula Haw.) and 6-colpate (remaining species); exine with tectum and small granulate texture and perforations; except for Epiphyllum phyllanthus (L.) Haw, colpi are covered by thin granulate membrane; heteromorphism in the apertures of L. houlletianum (Lem.) Barthlott, L. warmingianum (K. Schum.) Barthlott and Rhipsalis campos-portoana Loefgr was observed. Results indicate two morphological patterns in the study taxa: the fi rst (I) is related to pollen grains with 3-colpate aperture and second (II) with 6-colpate aperture

Paleoenvironmental evolution of the coastal plain of Southern Brazil: palynological data from a Holocene core in Santa Catarina State

This paper presents a paleoenvironmental reconstruction from palynological analyses of a sedimentary core of Holocene age, drilled at municipality of Garopaba (Santa Catarina), Southern Brazil. A total of 46 samples was collected for palynological analyses in the 450 cm-long core PCSC-3, as also three samples for radiocarbon dating and granulometric analyses. The palynological content includes 84 taxa related to pollen grains of angiosperms (38) and gimnosperm (3), spores of pteridophyta (16) and bryophyta (2), spores of fungi (8), algae (3), acritarchs (3), dinoflagellate cysts (2) and microforaminiferal linings (1). Three specimens of acritarchs are described and illustrated in detail. Three palynological phases were defined based on changes in assemblages: Phase I, Phase II and Phase III. The Phase I is characterized as a lagoonal paleoenvironment with marine influence from the beginning of the sedimentation (5390 cal yr BP), based on occurrences of acritarchs, dinoflagellate cysts and microforaminiferal linings. The Phase II (3032 yr BP until 858 cal yr BP) also is characterized by a lagoonal paleoenvironment, however, presented decrease in percentage of marine elements and increase in freshwater algae record, suggesting less marine influence in the lagoonal body. In Phase III (last 856 years), underwater sedimentation prevailed, under swamp-like conditions.
