Differential pressure for V2V vertical clearance

Matthew Hu; Roger Melen; Gaurav Bansal

Current V2V positioning systems are prone to accuracy degradations due to GNSS blackouts and multipath. In particular, loss in vertical accuracy near overpasses occasionally leads to false alarms in collision detection algorithms. This paper presents V2V differential pressure as a solution to this problem. General implementation details are discussed and techniques to mitigate noise and correct for errors are presented. Finally the overall system is evaluated through a series of experiments to demonstrate its effectiveness at determining vertical separation. This idea may be used to increase the robustness of current V2V positioning systems and enhance vertical accuracy.
