In this scenario, pastures have increased, making farming the major agricultural activity in these regions. However, this has been conducted with low technology and productivity, leading to environmental degradation. This paper proposes forestry as a sustainable development alternative for the Northern and Northwestern areas of the state. It was possible to verify that these regions have adequate socio-economic and environmental conditions for the installation of various forest species. If well managed, this activity can generate attractive economic initiatives, as well as environmental preservation and conservation.
