We describe 2 patients with spinal cord compression that occurred in the course of biopsy-proven giant cell arteritis (GCA). One case was due to an epidural tumorlike inflammatory lesion, the other to a concentric inflammatory thickening of the meninges. Both patients were highly corticodependent; they had low-titer anti-neutrophil cytoplasmic antibodies but no antimyeloperoxidase or antiproteinase 3 autoantibodies. The diagnosis was established by surgical biopsy. The histological pattern was reminiscent of Wegener granulomatosis. Both patients experienced relapse, despite high doses of corticosteroids, and experienced remission after the introduction of cyclophosphamide. Intravenous immunoglobulin perfusions were added for 1 patient. To our knowledge, spinal cord compression by a spinal pseudotumor or inflammatory meningitis has not been reported in the course of GCA. An overlap syndrome between GCA and Wegener granulomatosis is discussed.

Licorice abuse is a wellknown cause of high blood pressure, myopathy, and cardiac rhythm trouble. It should be considered as a cause of diffuse acute edema, as shown in the three following case-reports.

We report 2 cases of lupus erythematosus panniculitis. This is an uncommon clinical subset of lupus erythematosus which tends to be confined on the proximal extremities and the trunk. Antimalarial agents, with or without (short) courses of systemic steroids, are beneficial in most patients.

The aim of this study was to evaluate the Achilles tendon areflexia in the aging population. 250 consecutive patients 65 years old or greater were examined and only 10% had areflexia. We do not confirm the classical notion of frequent areflexia in the aging population.

We assessed the prevalence of thyroid diseases in temporal arteritis and polymyalgia rhumatica in a controlled retrospective and prospective study. Hyperthyroidism was found in 7 cases and hypothyroidism in 10 cases. No satistical difference was found between patients and control groups.

A clinical study of 120 cases of polyneuropathy is presented in a general internal medecin department, and the prevalence of the different etiologies is discussed. The electrical and clinical presentation is studied with the ˦tiological confrontation.

Abstract Eight patients with primary hyperparathyroidism are presented with special reference to neuropsychiatric symptoms. The frequency and reversibility of psychiatric manifestations are analysed. Some physiopathological and therapeutical implications are reviewed.
