The aim of this article is to investigate the meanings constructed around the death of a university center’s founder. For this purpose, the culture theory and the social constructionism approach formed the theoreticalmethodological basis. In this qualitative descriptive research, the triangulation of various data collection techniques was utilized and an analysis of the discursive practices was conducted. The reflections presented in this article could serve as a starting point for other researchers who are interested in investigating and constructing new theoretical and methodological reflections on this subject, which is absent from the theory of organizations. If this is the case, the researchers should bear in mind that the death of the founder of any organization takes on meanings that lie on the frontiers between the subjectivity of people and the organizational culture. The death of the founder, in any organization, cannot and should not be studied as something natural to those who have lost their historical reference, incorporating the figure of the hero, embellished with all his symbolism.

It was analyzed three municipalities of Minas Gerais state, Pedra do Indaia, Santo Antonio do Monte e Divinopolis, considering the fulfillment of the State and Federal legal requirements of Municipal Solid Waste (MSW), identifying limitations and potentialities of administrations. It was used information from the State Sanitation Information System (SSIS) and the National Sanitation Information System (NSIS), on-site observation and informal interviews with various actors of collection, transportation and disposal of MSW. It was found that the major constraints of the municipalities are financially driven and technical-administrative and none of the municipalities has, today, the ability to meet the legal requirements in their entirety. Currently, already occurs, adherence to public consortia that are presented as an effective alternative in compliance with legal requirements. Among the external factors it is considered as a major limitation the lack of awareness of the society and govern. So it is necessary a deeper approach to similar situations for the reformulation of practices that lead municipalities to compliance with the laws and thus provide better quality of life for citizens, through the social and environmental balance.

More attention has been paid to environmental matters in recent years, mainly due to the current scenario of accentuated environmental degradation. The economic valuation of nature goods can contribute to the decision-making process in environment management, generating a more comprehensive informational base. This paper aims to present, in a historic perspective, the different concepts attributed to nature goods and were related to the current predominant perspectives of nature analyses. For this purpose, this paper presents the different concepts attributed to value since the pre-classical period, when nature were viewed as inert and passive providers of goods and services, this view legitimized natures exploration without concern over the preservation and conservation of nature. The capacity of nature to absorb the impact of human action appears to be reaching its limit, considering the irreversibility, the irreproducibility and the possibility of collapse. The appropriate method for valuing natural resources is not known, but more important than the method is to respect and incorporate the particular characteristics of the nature goods into this process. These characteristics must be valuated in order to arrive at a more consistence approach to nature value and promote sustainability.
