Vasoseminal vesiculographies before and after ejaculation were compared in 16 cases of male sterility. In 12 cases the contrast medium was excreted into the ejaculate and the contours of the seminal vesicles were contracted after ejaculation. In 4 cases, however, there was little or no contraction of the seminal vesicles. Here the seminal tracts were considered to be abnormal and this dysfunction seems to be the cause or at least one of the cofactors responsible for sterility. The degree of excretion of contrast medium into the ejaculate seems to depend on the function of the seminal tract. Therefore, a postejaculation seminal vesiculogram is useful as a parameter for estimating the function of the seminal tract.

In 152 patients who were suspected to have prostatic disease prostatic fluid obtained by a specially designed catheter was examined cytologically. Cytology was positive in 16 of 20 patients who initially were diagnosed clinically as having prostatic carcinoma, in 10 of 41 patients with suspected carcinoma and in 3 of 91 patients with clinical prostatic hypertrophy or other benign diseases. All but one of these cytologically positive cases finally were confirmed histologically to have prostatic carcinoma. In 4 patients initially diagnosed as having prostatic carcinoma cytology was not positive but in one the initial clinical diagnosis was incorrect and only 3 were false negative. This method of diagnosis is simple and highly effective in detecting prostatic carcinoma.

Cryosurgery has been performed on 18 patients with prostatic hypertrophy, and the following conclusions are reached: The quotient obtained by dividing the estimated weight of the prostate gland by the frozen weight obtained by an equation is called the freezing index, and this index can be introduced into the evaluation of the results of cryosurgery on the prostate gland. Cryosurgery was not markedly effective in cases of freezing indices over 0.76, and the incidence of complications was high in cases of freezing indices not more than 0.5. The ideal freezing index obtained empirically was 0.6. No dysuria has recurred during past three years in the cases where cryosurgery was assessed satisfactory in effect within two to three months.
