Turkish dried fig (Ficus carica L.) production plays a major role in the world trade due to its volume and quality. The production is generally realized from orchards on steep slopes under rain-fed conditions. Birgi-İrimağzı in Ödemiş has peculiarities in respect to dried fig production. In this region, colluvial soils require additional late-winter irrigation by flooding especially in years because of inadequate winter rainfall. Organic dried fig production has gained importance since mid 1980s. The research work aimed at testing the effect of sheep and cow manure mixtures (at two different ratios: 1:1 and 2:1) on leaf and fruit nutrient contents, vigor, and fruit quality. The results proved that tree vigor and fruit quality were improved with the applied rates of farmyard manure, where as the effect on nutrient content of the leaf was not marked.

The aim of this study was to determine the effect of different K fertilizers and different K doses on yield and N, P, K content of leaves in grapes. The treatments were the control; 1 %, 2% and 3% KNO3;.and 1% KH2PO4 + NH4H2PO4 foliar applications which were realized weekly at full blossom and ripening. Yield of the grape was regularly recorded for two years. The findings of the investigation are as follows: 1. The effect of KNO3 applications on leaves were found to be significant on fruit yield. The highest yield was obtained at 3 % doses. In 1996–1997 years, KNO3 applications increased fruit yield compared to control plot 35 % and 17 % as a respectively.2. KH2 PO4 and NH4H2PO4 applications increased the yield according to control plot 34% in 1996 and 5 % in 1997 year. 3. It was found that the effect of KNO3 applications was significant on K content of petiol and P, K content of blade.

The effects on soil and cotton quality of organic wastes from medicinal and aromatic plant factories were investigated with regard to the risks of boron and heavy metal pollution. Oily cumin, oregano, oilless oregano wastes, and mineral fertilizers were applied to cotton in two field experiments performed in the years 2003 and 2006. The Pb content of the soil differed significantly in the 2003 experiment and oregano wastes had significantly decreasing effect. Boron of soil to which oily cumin wastes had been applied reached a toxic limit value in 2006. Boron in soil adversely affected long fibres; B in leaves had a positive effect on the fineness of fibres in 2006. Soil Ni adversely affected plant height in 2006 and seed cotton yield in 2003. Leaf Ni had an adverse effect on fibre elasticity in 2006. Soil Co increased ginning out-turn and Cr decreased the fibre fineness of cotton in 2003.

The residual effect of agro-industrial wastes previously used for potato growing was investigated for soil characteristics and maize nutrition. The soil pH increased and organic matter decreased during maize growth. Nitrogen and K were generally low, but statistically higher almost in waste-applied soils. Soil phosphorus was greatest in the ‘Only Wastes’ and ‘Min.P + Wastes NK’ treatments. N, P, K and Ca decreased significantly in the soil of ‘Only Wastes’ during maize growth, as did the organic matter content. ‘Only wastes’ generally produced a maximum maize growth parameter. Zinc and Mn were low in soils and no pollution risk arose with respect to heavy metals. Nitrogen, K, Zn and Mn of leaves were below adequate levels. Lead and Cr in plants decreased with the chelating effect of increased organic matter. Phosphorus in wastes gave significantly the highest yield, and P in kernel had the effect of increasing some yield parameters in maize.

B u arastirma, acik tarla kosullarinda yetistirilen sanayi domatesinde 0, 3, 6, 9 t/da sigir gubresi ile onerilen (25:12:12 ve 3,8 kg/da Ca) ve onerilenin yarisi miktarlarda kimyasal gubre uygulamalarinin verim ve kaliteye olan etkisini belirlemek amaciyla yapilmistir. Calisma sonucu, sigir ve kimyasal gubrelerin domates bitkisinin toplam verim, meyve eni, meyve boyu, meyve agirligini kontrole gore istatistiki olarak onemli duzeylerde arttirdigi belirlenmistir. En yuksek toplam verim ve meyve eni, boyu, ortalama meyve agirligi degerleri 6 t/da sigir gubresi ve onerilen kimyasal gubrenin yarisinin uygulandigi parsellerden elde edilmistir. Suda eriyebilir kuru madde degerleri en yuksek miktarlara sigir gubresi uygulamalarinin 6 ve 9 t/da dozlari ile onerilen ve onerilen ½ kimyasal gubre uygulamalari ile ulasmistir. Vitamin C uzerine uygulamalarin etkisi onemsiz bulunmustur. Ayrica meyve orneklerinin N, Ca, K, Mg, Zn, ve Cu iceriklerinin de sigir ve kimyasal gubre uygulamalari ile arttigi belirlenmistir

Bu calisma, Ege Universitesi Odemis Meslek Yuksekokulu deneme tarlalarinda, 2003 ve 2004 yillarinda, tarla ve ortu altinda olmak uzere, iki farkli ortamda yurutulmustur. Denemenin amaci, alternatif bir urun olarak dusunulebilecek olan sumbulteberin cicek verimi, bazi kalite ozellikleri ve besin element icerigine N uygulamalarinin etkisini belirlemektir. Arastirmada, incelenen ozellikler arasindaki etkilesimler de incelenmistir. Tarla denemeleri ve ortu alti denemeleri uc tekerrurlu olarak, bes farkli azot dozu (0-10-20-30-40 kg/da) uygulanarak kurulmustur. Ortu altinda yapilan yetistiriciligin acikta yetistiricilige gore basak boyu, basak sayisi, basak basina cicek sayisi ve ciceklenme periyodu uzerine olumlu etkileri belirlenmistir. Azotun onemli etkisinin bulundugu calismada, en uygun cicek ozellikleri 20 kg/da N dozunda elde edilmistir. Ayrica basak basina cicek sayisi ile ciceklenme periyodu arasinda pozitif iliski, yapraklarin P ve Cu icerigi arasinda negatif iliski saptanmistir
