Abstract Complexes of La (III), Nd(III), Gd(III), Sm(III), and Ce(IV) were synthesized with Schiff base [(3,5-di-tert-butyl-2-hydroxybenzyl) amino] acetic acid (H 3 L). The ligand and its complexes were synthesized and characterized based on the following analysis: elemental analyses, FAB-mass, molar conductance measurements, magnetic measurement, UV-visible, IR, and NMR spectral studies. The spectral data revealed that the ligand acted as a neutral tridentate coordinating to metal ion through ONO donor sequence. Thermal degradation studies of the ligand and its complexes showed that the previous lanthanide complexes were more thermally stable than the ligand itself. The Schiff base and its complexes were screened for their antibacterial ( Escherichia coli, Staphylococcus aureus ) and antifungal ( Aspergillus flavus and Candida Albicans ).

Cu(II), Co(II), Ni(II), Cd(II), and Zn(II) complexes of 6-(2-phenyldiazenyl)-7-hydroxy-4-methyl coumarin (PAHC) are characterized based on elemental analyses, infrared, 1H NMR, magnetic moment, molar conductance, mass spectra, UV-Vis analysis, thermogravimetric analysis (TGA), and X-ray powder diffraction. From the elemental analyses, it is found that the complexes have formulae [M(L)2(H2O) n ] ⋅ xH2O (where M = Cu(II), Co(II), Ni(II), Cd(II), and Zn(II), n = 0–2, x = 1–4). The molar conductance data reveal that all the metal chelates are non-electrolytes. From the magnetic and solid reflectance spectra, it is found that the structures of these complexes are octahedral or tetrahedral. The synthesized ligand and metal complexes were screened for antibacterial activity against some Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria.

One-dimensional structure of Zinc(II) metal organic framework ([Zn2(C10H8N2)3(NO3)4]∞) has been synthesized at room temperature and structurally characterized by elemental analysis, thermogravimetric analysis, and single-crystal X-ray diffraction. The five-coordinated Zn(II) complex exhibits trigonal bipyramidal coordination geometry. The Zn(II) ion is stabilized by three-connected nodes to form 1D ladder structure. The 1D chain is further connected to each other via hydrogen bonding to form 2D structure. Disordered CH2Cl2 solvent molecules were trapped in the pores. The luminescent and thermal properties have been also investigated. In addition, the activation thermodynamic parameters, ΔE*, ΔH*, ΔS* and ΔG* are calculated from the DTA curves using Coats–Redfern method.

ABSTRACT Poly(o-toluidine · 2HCl) and its doped polymers with Mn and Cr ions have been synthesized and characterized by FT-IR, UV–Vis. and thermogravimetrical analyses. Potassium dichromate has been used as an initiator and a dopant of chromium in CrPOT preparation. The effect of doping on thermal and optical properties of Poly(o-toluidine dihydrochloride) has been discussed. CrPOT has been used as a precursor of Cr2O3 nanoparticles through thermal decomposition rout. The obtained nanoparticles have been characterized by X-ray diffraction and high resolution transmission electron microscope. The results indicated that Cr2O3 exists in hexagonal structure as mesoporous Eskolit with average particle size of 48 nm. Optical band gap measurements indicated that Eskolite nanoparticles have wider band gap than the bulk. GRAPHICAL ABSTRACT

Poly(m-phenylene diamine) has been synthesized and characterized by physical and spectral techniques. The effect of doping Cr, Co and Ni ions on the spectral, thermal and optical properties has been studied. Optical band gap measurements indicated that, doped polymers have wider optical band gap than the pure one. The effect of doping on the thermal stability differs according to the doped metal ion. The doped with Cr ions poly(m-phenylenediamine) has been used as a precursor of mesoporous Cr2O3 nanoparticles, which have been also characterized by XRD and HR-TEM.

A new Cu(II), Ni(II), Fe(III), and Sn(II) complexes of captopril (CAP) have been prepared and characterized using elemental analysis, IR spectra, molar conductance, and thermal analysis (TG). Thermal stabilities and the decomposition steps have been designed using thermogravimetric analyzer. Thermodynamic parameters were calculated from DTG curves using Coats–Redfern method.
