Active support, despite being used for more than 20 years in other places, it is still an unknown methodology in services that support people with intellectual disabilities and high support needs, in our country. This article aims to make an approach to the philosophy and strategies promulgated by the active support, through a documental review of scientific studies. Results of 24 articles about the life of residents and the direct support professionals’ work following the implementation of this methodology in different resources are analyzed.

Most students who start an Adult Education have failed in compulsory education and this educational option is probably their last chance. For this reason, the aim of our study has been improving the students performance and attitude towards the English language using an adaptive methodology that, in contrast to the traditional one, has allowed a variety of teaching methods and techniques to adequately respond to the diversity of all students. From our study it is clear that the adaptive method is the one performing best when using attitudinal and aptitudinal metrics in written and oral expression over time. It is however worth mentioning that improvement in terms of understanding capacity can be observed from the very beginning. Already in the first iterations we have opted for the experiments to be truly operational, functional and applicable in the context of everyday English classes for adults. This has enabled the creation of a bank of resources to complete the units of Adult Education School.

------------------------------------------------------------------------ Tipology of the dependence of people with disabilities attend in residencial care, day centres and vocational training centres.
