Multi-layered glass and carbon-reinforced polymer composites may exhibit unique properties comparatively with the benchmark, proven they are being tailored bounded by several requirements. The paper herein approaches issues on the influence of the various contents and orientation of UD carbon fibre constitutive on the mechanical, dynamical and thermal expansion if embedded along with glass fibres in different stacking sequencing within an unsaturated polymer resin. The results show that the architectures with the highest content of carbon fibres (e.g. GF:CF(60:40) – 0° and 90°) provide the best tensile and flexural properties, and behave better under dynamical loading conditions and temperature variations, no matter the orientation directions. In addition, it was shown that a thorough understanding can be attained, with respect to the UD carbon fibre content, and different orientations influence on the overall composite material properties, taking into account the data retrieved from dynamical and thermal expansion runs.Multi-layered glass and carbon-reinforced polymer composites may exhibit unique properties comparatively with the benchmark, proven they are being tailored bounded by several requirements. A study on the alignment process of data of human morphology obtained by laser acquisition devices is presented in this paper. A three-dimensional latest generation digitizer is used and a methodology of alignment for the human morphology data is established. Also, guides on how to solve problems of this alignment are discussed and a comparative study of point clouds processing programs is carried out. RapidFormTM, the standard software used for editing data acquired by the scanner 3D is compared with PolyworksTM, the alternative to RapidFormTM software used due to its good characteristics for the alignment mechanical parts. Results of the comparison of some software applications are showed.

The herein paper tackles the issue of dimensional stability of composite materials from the perspective of characterization the overall linear coefficient of thermal expansion (CTE) for different hybrid polymeric composite architectures tailored with the aim of lowering the manufacturing costs and fulfilling few design requirements in several engineering applications. The hybrid configurations are made of unidirectional carbon fibers (max. 1 or 2) embedded along with different combinations of E-glass woven roving or chopped E-glass strand mat as wear/chemical resistant, outside reinforcement layers. A polyester resin type was used as binder. The thermal properties were measured using a differential dilatometer DIL 402 PC/1 from NETZSCH GmbH (Germany) imposing a linear, monotonic temperature rise with 1 K/min from 20°C up to 250°C. Thermal cycling behavior was underlined by imposing two successive heating cycles upon each hybrid composite samples. Thermal strains temperature/time evolution and peak values are further analyzed to size the thermal aging effects. The experimental retrieved data will be further compared with the values obtained by running a micromechanical based approach simulation on the DIGIMAT software (from X-stream Engineering Inc., Luxembourg).Copyright
