Residual stress occurs in many machined components and parts. Over time, several methods have been developed for the investigation of residual stress in the material – destructive and non-destructive. This article deals with the evaluation and comparison of residual stress in the material when machining steel C45 and 11CrMo910, when the tool enters into the cut and stands out in conditions of an interrupted cut. A non-destructive method, based on X-Ray diffraction, was applied to evaluate the residual stress. The points were measured on the last machined slat by using interrupted cut simulator. An irregular interrupted cut was achieved by gradually machining 4, 3, 2 and 1 slat. The experiments were realized in co-operation with the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering, VSB – Technical University of Ostrava, Czech Republic and the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering, the University of Žilina, Slovakia.

Abstract This article discusses the test of removable ceramic cutting inserts during machining irregular interrupted cut. Tests were performed on a lathe, with the preparation which simulated us the interrupted cut. By changing the number of plates mounted in a preparation it simulate us a regular or irregular interrupted cut. When with four plates it was regular interrupted cut, the remaining three variants were already irregular cut. It was examined whether it will have the irregular interrupted cutting effect on the insert and possibly how it will change life of inserts during irregular interrupted cut (variable delay between shocks).

Abstract Residual stresses are undesirable and it should not be underestimated. They occur in many components and it is necessary to identify and try to avoid them. For detection the Residual stresses, there are many methods, but not all are suitable, because they can completely destroy of the components. The article deals with the evaluation of Residual stresses in the inner rings of Bearings, which are made from steel 100Cr6 (ČSN 14 109.4. The surfaces were turning at different cutting parameters and subsequently are evaluated Residual stresses. The stresses have been evaluated by non – destructive method X – Ray. The experiment was realized in cooperation Faculty of Mechanical Engineering VSB – TU Ostrava and Faculty of Mechanical Engineering of ZU Zilina – machining in the laboratories of ZU Žilina, Slovak Republic.
