Techno-economic feasibility of HVDS concept for distribution feeder power loss minimisation

Sarwar; Zainul Abdin Jaffery; Anwar Shahzad Siddiqui; Imran Ahmad Quadri

This paper presents a method to reduce the technical power loss in distribution systems. The high voltage distribution system is proposed to minimize the technical distribution losses. The analysis is done using CYMDIST. The developed methodology is carried on a Lalpura distribution feeder from the Palwal division (Haryana). The feeder is feeding to 89 Distribution transformers with 200 amperes peak load and having the length of about 76 km. The analysis reveals that converting the existing LVDS system for the agricultural load to HVDS system, there is net reduction in technical losses in the distribution system which in turn raises the efficiency of the system. Also it shows the economic viability of the proposed technique.

Congestion management in deregulated electricity market using distributed generation

Sarwar; Anwar Shahzad Siddiqui

A congestion management approach in a deregulated electricity market using distributed generation (DG) has been proposed. Locational marginal price (LMP) has been utilized to find the optimal location of DG. Two different methods, highest LMP method and LMP difference method, are used to capture the potential locations for DG placement. Based on the priority of locations obtained from these two methods, the DG is placed to mitigate congestion. For selection of optimal size of DG, a method based on performance index for different ratings of DG is proposed and its effectiveness with the two methods of locating the DG is analysed. The performance of the proposed methodologies have been tested on IEEE 14-bus system.

An approach to locate tcsc optimally for congestion management in deregulated electricity market

Sarwar; Mohd Tauseef Khan; Anwar Shahzad Siddiqui; Imran Ahmad Quadri

Congestion mitigation is one of the major problem faced by the transmission system operator in deregulated electricity market. In this paper, a congestion management approach based on optimal placement of thyristor controlled series capacitor (TCSC) in deregulated environment has been proposed. The most critical line having highest probability of occurrence of congestion is investigated. The optimal location for TCSC placement to mitigate congestion is found based on probability of occurrence of congestion in a transmission line. The performance of proposed technique is tested on IEEE 14-bus system.

Characteristic modeling analysis and simulation of solar PV module

Manzar Nezami; Sarwar

This paper systematically represents a stepwise process for the reproduction of solar module in the MATLAB/ Simulink environment. An equivalent diode circuit helps to study the P-V, I-V behavior of the 250 watt solar photovoltaic module. The planned model is designed using fundamental equations of solar module and illustrated through an electrical equivalent circuit which includes a diode, a photocurrent source and resistances in shunt and series. The model so developed illustrates the forecasting of PV module performance under varying environmental and physical constraints. These physical constraints for a taken solar PV cell as the function of solar radiation and temperature are also governed.

Mitigation of Market Power in deregulated power system using Nash Equilibrium

Mohd Tauseef Khan; Anwar Shahzad Siddiqui; Sarwar; Fahad Iqbal

Market Power is one of the major issues present in deregulated power system. Some of the participants game the constraints to gain large market power which results in inefficiency, higher costs and low consumer benefit. The paper discusses the market power, its analysis and mitigation technique. Nash Equilibrium is used in this paper to mitigate the market power. Two cases are discussed in this paper; market power without transmission constraints and market power with transmission constraints. Market power with transmission constraints presents more complex situation, as one or more participants can game the constraints and can create an artificial congestion. Three generator hypothetical situation is simulated for analysis and mitigation of market power.

Zonal congestion management based on locational marginal price in deregulated electricity market

Sarwar; Anwar Shahzad Siddiqui

A zonal congestion management approach in a deregulated electricity market based on locational marginal price (LMP) has been proposed. Since LMP gives an economic signal and its difference at two buses across a line gives the measure of degree of congestion therefore it is efficiently used in deregulated electricity market for congestion management. This paper makes use of the difference of LMP across a link to identify different congestion zones in the system. After the identification of congestion zones, the effect of allocation of distributed generation to different potential locations of congestion zones has been analyzed in order to manage congestion. The performance of the proposed methodology has been tested on IEEE 14-bus system.
