This paper reports on a project to engage researchers and seaweed farmers in an intervention to improve livelihoods as a part of coastal community empowerment in Ceningan Island, Bali, Indonesia. An easy and manageable seaweed processing technology and introduction of the processing technology was developed in order to improve income and livelihoods by improving skills and knowledge of seaweed farmers in Ceningan Island in seaweed processing technology and business plan and managerial of seaweed processing products. This project was started with a field survey and followed by two workshops. The project was started with a field survey to identify major issues or problem faced by the seaweed farmers and to determine target and segmentation of workshop participants. Two workshops then were conducted based on field data to introduce “seaweed for food” processing technology, and the second workshop was conducted to introduce business plan and managerial knowledge that can be applied by seaweed farmers. As a result of this project, 35 people became capable of producing various seaweed-based food products and continued to operate in a small-scale manner under the guidance of IDEP Foundation. The project proved to be a renaissance for Ceningan Island coastal community to realize how potential their seaweed processing could be. Windows of opportunity lie in front of them to establish small and medium enterprises on seaweed products and to build those products as souvenir icon from Ceningan Island, Bali.

Because of global issue about limited energy, biogas was one of alternative energy and save energy in the world which produced from biomass especially from cow manure. Most of biogas which produced from cow manure contains 40–75% methane as energy resources and another gas as impurities. Methane concentration of biogas has relation with biogas energy value, especially for application as fuel of electricity conversion using gen‐set. For increasing gen‐set efficiency can be held by increasing methane concentration of biogas using biogas purification process. Biogas purification process can be held by adsorption system which using activated zeolite as absorber. After biogas through the purification system, methane concentration was increasing and impacting to gen‐set efficiency especially voltage value was increasing until 22 times in average better than without purification and keeping power stability, so it will produce electricity conversion until 39,07% of practical and 38,09% of equation calculation fro...

This research aim to analysis bioethanol purification process. Bioethanol from cassava has been produced in previous research and the ethanol from molasses was taken from Bekonang region. The production of bioethanol from cassava was carried out through several processes such as homogenization, adding of α‐amylase, β‐amylase and yeast (Saccharomyces c). Two types of laboratory scale distillator have been used, the first type is 50 cm length and 4 cm diameter. The second type distillator is 30 cm length and 9 cm diameter. Both types have been used to distill bioethanol The initial concentration after the fermentation process is 15% for bioethanol from cassava and 20–30% ethanol from molasses. The results of first type distillator are 90% of bioethanol at 50° C and yield 2.5%; 70% of bioethanol at 60° C and yield 11.2%. 32% of bioethanol at 70° C and yield 42%. Meanwhile the second distillator results are 84% of bioethanol at 50° C with yield 12%; 51% of bioethanol at 60° C with yield 35.5%; 20% of bioethan...
