This study evaluated the zootechnic and productive indexes, the production costs and the profit of four type B milk production systems in the State of Sao Paulo, Brazil, that use intensive pasture grazing as the forage source for the cattle during the summer. The four selected systems were: EMBRAPA/CPPSE system and two private production systems of Sao Carlos region, and one system located in Sao Joao da Boa Vista city. The criterion for the private systems selection was to have similar technology and productive profiles as the EMBRAPA system. The collection data included zootechnical index and available recourses for every system. Once the zootechnical index was obtained, the herd was stabilized to allow descriptive analyses of studied characteristics in the systems. The obtained results allowed to conclude that high productivity does not mean greater profit and that the production scale influenced the total cost per litre of milk and, therefore, the profit of the systems. This study evaluated the zootechnic and productive indexes, the production costs and the profit of four type B milk production systems in the State of São Paulo, Brazil, that use intensive pasture grazing as the forage source for the cattle during the summer. Twenty-four Holstein crossbred young bulls, with 75 kg initial average weight and 215 kg final average weight, were confined in a feedlot. The objective of this experiment was to evaluate the production cost. The animals were fed elephant grass with 30 to 45 days of age, soybean meal, corn meal, meat meal and mineral mix basal concentrate, and broiler litter, which constituted the treatments: 1 = 50% forage and 50% concentrate, 2 = 50% forage, 35% concentrate and 15% broiler litter, 3 = 25% forage and 75% concentrate and 4 = 25% forage, 52.5% concentrate and 22.5% broiler litter, as dry matter basis. It was used the completely randomized blocks experimental design, with six blocks and four treatments. The gross income, costs and profit analysis indicated that the profit was negative in all treatments when the produced meat sale price was the same as the fat ox price. However, when the same costs were maintained (effective operational cost and total operational cost) and the kilo of produced meat sale price rose 10%, relative to the fat ox kilo of meat price, all the treatments presented profit, distinguishing the treatments 2 and 3, with R

/kg, caused larger impact in the effective operational cost of treatment 3 and smaller in treatment 2, providing profit and return on the invested capital for all treatments, based on the 7.62:1 relationship between concentrate price x meat price. The simulations showed that treatment 2 was economically more advantageous because it produced a better cost/benefit relationship in the conditions of the present work.

The objective of this study was to identify and quantify benchmarks of milk production systems. The technological profile and size, livestock and economic indicators of sixteen farms in the region of Triângulo Mineiro were analyzed. Indicators correlated with rate of return on capital (RRC) were identified and quantified in four scenarios of RRC (6, 8, 10 and 12% per year). The correlated indicators and their respective values in the four scenarios were: land (99, 90, 81 and 73 ha); relation of total cows in lactation (74, 77, 79 and 82%); lactating cows per area (0.89; 0.99; 1.11 and 1.22 cows/ha); milk production per lactating cow (12.04; 13.00; 13.96 and 14.92 liters/cow/day); milk production per total cows (9.19; 10.23; 11.27 and 12.31 liters/cow/day); labor productivity (322, 349, 375 and 402 liters/day/man); land productivity (4351, 5236, 6120 and 7004 liters/ha/year); participation of total effective operational cost of activity in the gross revenue of the activity (69, 66, 63 and 60%); participation of total operational cost of activity in the gross revenue of the activity (80, 76, 72 and 69%); participation of total cost of activity in the gross revenue of the activity (93, 88, 82 and 77%); labor cost in relation to milk gross revenue (15, 13, 11 and 9%); profitability (15, 19, 23 and 28%); and capital investment in the activity in relation to daily milk production (922, 829, 736 and 644 R
