Design of Database Schema by Conversion of UML-Based Register Schema

Daewon Park; Jimin Yeo; Seojeong Lee; Suhyun Park

This paper concerns the conversion of the register schema of the International Hydrographic Organization (IHO)s S-100 standard to a database schema for implementation of a Feature Concept Dictionary (FCD) register. The FCD register, one of the registers of the IHO Geographic Information (GI) registry, maintains independent sets of feature, attribute, enumerated value, and information type definitions. Registered items in the FCD register are used to develop a feature catalogue, which is a component of an S-100-based product specification. For support of feature catalogue development, an FCD register can be implemented as a database system. In order to build the FCD registers database, we analyze its information model. But as the register schema is represented using the Unified Modeling Language (UML), we need to analyze the FCD register schema and design a database schema based on the conversion of the formers UML elements.

Harmonised Portrayal of e-Navigation-related Information

Lee Alexander; Seojeong Lee; Artur Baranowski; Thomas Porathe

A Guideline on the Harmonised Portrayal of e-Navigation-related Information was recently completed by IALA. The purpose of this Guideline is to provide guidance regarding the presentation and display of e-Navigation-related information. The basic, over-riding premise of this Guideline is that shipborne and shore-based equipment, systems, and services should portray e-Navigation-related information to all users (both onboard and ashore) in a consistent manner. However, since e-Navigation is an evolutionary process, this goal-based guideline describes over-arching objectives to be achieved, while freedom to innovate is left to both developers and users. An explanation is provided about key aspects of the Guideline. In particular, a website has been established to show examples of useful ways to portray e-Navigation information for current as well as some future types of equipment, systems, and services.

A Development of AIS Vessel Monitoring System on online map using HTML5

Seojeong Lee; Jae-Wook Lee

【As the increasing of requirement for safety navigation, IMO has enforced the mandatory installation of vessel AIS equipment by SOLAS regulation. The AIS transceiver broadcasts various vessel information which can be gathered by the receivers on-board or on-shore. And, recently, as web-based application developments on various devices have been increased, there are more and more requirements of AIS information presentation on internet. To meet these web-based application requirements, this paper shows the practical implementation of the AIS display system, which is on the Google maps as online commercial map and adopts the HTML5 as a web standard.】

A Hybrid Load Balancing Scheme for Games in Wireless Networks

Hye-Young Kim; Hwa-Jin Park; Seojeong Lee

A wireless network consists of a large number of nodes with limited resources. The large number of event data will be generated over a period of time in a wireless network. Also, faced with high resource demand variability and with misfit resource renting policies, the current practices is to overprovision for each game tens of owned data. In a wireless network, the agent node may become easily overloaded by the high demand from the players for updates. So, we propose a hybrid load balancing scheme for games in wireless networks which is based on allocating load on wireless mobile nodes proportionally to each of the agents capacities. This proposed scheme is a combined dynamic provisioning algorithm based on greedy graph and user-oriented load balancing scheme for maintaining the performance and stability of distributed system in wireless networks. We address the key functions for our proposed scheme and simulate the efficiency of our proposed scheme using mathematical analyses. We then testify that the proposal has best performance compared with previous researches.

A Research of Data Gathering Middleware and User Friendly Display for vessel PMS(Planned Maintenance System)

Seojeong Lee

Vessel PMS (Planned Maintenance System) is a paper and/or software based system to monitor vessel engine equipment including main propulsion, steering, auxiliary machinery and cargo handling information. This is one of mandatory survey for vessel introduced by IMO (International Maritime Organization). The planned maintenance as well as documentation must be performed according to a system to be approved by classification agencies. Recently, vessel owners have preferred software based systems to collect and preserve accurate data. However, not ship specific and not taking into account the user are said by end users as operational difficulties. To relieve these concerns, this research analyzes vessel PMS data, suggests a middleware to support automatic collection and design consideration of user interface.

The Extention and Implementation of User-defined AIS AtoN for Marine Safety Information Service

In-Hwan Park; Seung-Wook Hwang; Seojeong Lee

Recently, the marine traffics have been increased along with enlargement of overseas commerce. Increasing the marine traffic may make higher the risk of marine accidents. Especially, the rate of accidents on costal area are more frequently. As if the marine safety information can be afforded to vessel and shore, the accident rate would be down. AIS AtoN is the navigational safety support device which is subject to functional requirements of IALA and technical standards of ITU. In this paper, we extend and implement the user-defined specification of AIS AtoN with message 21 for AIS basic information, messsage 6 for status report and message 12/14 for safety management.

A coupling metric applying the characteristics of components

Mi-Sook Choi; Seojeong Lee

A high coupling between components makes it difficult to build the modulation of software and the reuse of components, and to manage the system due to the ripple effect by software change impact. Thus, a coupling metric is required to measure the coupling between components in order to design software effectively. In this paper, we propose an approach to improving the existing component-based coupling metrics by considering the dependency about the structured relationships and the method call types between classes. In addition, we prove the theoretical soundness of the proposed metric by the axioms of briand et al. and suggest the accuracy and practicality of the proposed metric through a comparison with the conventional metrics.

An Implementation of NAVTEX Application on Android Mobile Device

Seojeong Lee; Jae-Wook Lee

NAVTEX is one of useful tool for vessel safety navigation, which serves navigational warnings as well as urgent marine safety information to ships. However, it is not easy for novice to recognize where the warning happens. Recently, as the increase of smart mobile devices, there are many mobile device users in coastal area boarding on ship. In this paper, to help their safety navigation, we implement an application to display NAVTEX messages on Android mobile device. The title, summary and body of messages are displayed as text and the position of warning is shown on google map.
