A White-List Based Security Architecture (WLSA) for the Safe Mobile Office in the BYOD Era

Jaeho Lee; Yongjin Lee; Seungcheon Kim

The BYOD (Bring Your Own Device) based mobile office services become popular as the rapid growth of smartphone users. However, malicious codes are also widespread, therefore security threats become serious problems. This paper suggests WLSA (White-List based Security Architecture) for the better mobile office security and presents required procedures and the analysis of the expected security enhancement.

Toward Hybrid Model for Architecture-Oriented Semantic Schema of Self-adaptive System

Jinhong Kim; Seungcheon Kim

Self-adaptive software is an essential approach to manage the challenges of establishing system that autonomously responds to a variety of context-aware situation. In addition, self-adaptive software use a lot of policies and explicitly or implicitly between rules and cases to decide how to react to monitored events. For theses, Self-adaptive systems persistingly develop and modify behavioral properties to meet changing demands. Most of important, specification of adaptation policy is based on element in the construction of architecture-based hybrid model. However, several rules are usually scattered in different procedures, which makes procedures more complex, as well as cases are merely recognized situation by the rule and case. Accordingly, in this paper, we presents what is hybrid model including architecture-centric semantic schema. Also, a core element in architectural self-adaptive systems is the specification of adaptation policy: the mapping between hybrid observer indicating the need for an adaptation and hybrid diagnosis of properties with regulator in this need, along with an expression of self-adaptive schema algorithm.

Congestion control for best-effort services in wireless access network

Seungcheon Kim; Abbas Jamalipour

3G and beyond wireless networks will support user mobility fully based on mobile IP and provide multimedia services like video-conferencing etc. Although the outstanding service will be the real time service, the best effort service class will still remain as a basic service for Web browsing and short message services. Current Internet mostly relies on the TCP sliding window and slow start to regulate the source data rate and prevent congestion in the network. This paper describes network level congestion control based on explicit congestion notification (ECN) and introduces the future wireless network architecture. Also, wireless network traffic problems are introduced with numerical results and computer simulations, which shows the throughput improvement and increase of network stability when the proposed method is adapted in future wireless networks.

A flow control scheme using broadcast information for Internet services in multiple-beam satellite networks

Seungcheon Kim; Abbas Jamalipour

A new flow control scheme improving performance of the future broadband satellite networks is proposed and analyzed in this paper. The proposed scheme is particularly suitable for the Internet-based services in broadband satellite networks. The complexity of the proposed scheme is comparable with the existing flow control techniques, as it does not require the additional information to be provided by either the satellite or the Earth stations. The throughput and the satellite queue size performances of the proposed scheme are mathematically analyzed and simulated. The results show the significant improvement in the proposed scheme comparing with the conventional window-based and rate-based flow control techniques. Such a scheme can be used in the future satellite networks, which are an important component in the global information infrastructure (GII).

A Research on Personalized Mobile Advertising Service using the Linkage between Digital Signage and Smartphones

Kwang-Hyun Ro; Ho-Young Hwang; Seungcheon Kim

This paper proposes a new personalized mobile advertising service using a smartphone connected with a digital signage which is increasingly common for out-of-home advertising. The advertising contents can be transferred with their metadata to a digital signage. Then, the signage delivers only metadata to smartphones in close proximity of it. Based on the user`s preference, an application on a smartphone stores advertising metadata and publishes a personalized advertising e-catalog automatically. A smartphone user can browse, edit and share it with friends. In the view of extension of the reach of the advertising contents of various N-Screen devices including a digital signage and a smart TV to a smartphone and supplying personalized advertising data, this advertising model will be very beneficial and commercialized in the near future.

Adaptive Smart Vehicle Middleware Platform for Aspect Oriented Software Engineering

Jinhong Kim; Seungcheon Kim

The most of very large system by growing the variety of applications, the relationships between the requirements and the program components are more complex. A single requirement may be implemented by a number of components and each component may include elements of several requirements. Moreover, these requirements become critical when considering conceptual model by smart applications and smart platform, which are capable of optimizing their behavior or context of execution depending on themselves. Accordingly, we propose to aspect oriented software engineering in our adaptive smart vehicle middleware platform to influence the development and the concern OSGi oriented requirement in this paper.

Mobile Web-Access Evaluation and Automatic Translation System

Seungcheon Kim; Ho-Young Hwang; Kwanghyun Rho

This paper introduces Web Accessibility to web pages, which is the basic method of obtaining information in modern Internet. Also we explore the system that is capable of examine whether the corresponding web pages are following the accessibility regulation. In order to examine web pages, we need to classify all the objects that web page contains. And the classified objects are to be examined by the standards of Web Accessibility. And also this paper introduces the mobile translation system for web accessibility.

Improvement of Electrochemical Characteristics and Study of Deterioration of Aluminum Foil in Organic Electrolytes for EDLC

Mun-Soo Lee; Donna H. Kim; Seungcheon Kim

The anodic behavior of aluminum (Al) foils with varying purity, capacitance, and withstand voltage in organic electrolytes was examined for EDLC. The results of cyclic voltammetry (CV) and chronoamperometry (CA) experiments showed that the electrochemical stability improves when Al foil has higher purity, lower capacitance, and higher withstand voltage. To improve the electrochemical stability of EDLC current collectors made of low-purity foil (99.4% Al foil), the foil was modified by chemical etching to reduce its capacitance to 60 μF/cm and forming to have withstand a voltage of 3 Vf. EDLC cells using the modified Al foil as a current collector were made to 2.7 V with 360 F, and a constant voltage load test was subsequently performed for 2500 hours at high temperature under a rated voltage of 2.7 V. The reliability and stability of the EDLC cell improved when the modified Al foil was used as a current collector. To understand the deterioration process of the Al current collector, standard cells made of conventional Al foil under a constant voltage load test were disassembled, and the surface changes of the foil were measured every 500 hours. The Al foil became increasingly corroded, causing the adhesion between the AC coating layer and the Al foil to weaken, and it was confirmed that partial AC coating layer peeling occurred.

A security architecture for BYOD office

Seungcheon Kim; Kyu-Tae Lee

The Mobile Offices services based on Bring Your Own Device (BYOD) are getting more popular as the use of smart phone grows rapidly. As the free wireless services are being spread, malicious codes can be spread easily. Therefore, how we will provide security in an environment of free wireless has become an issue. This paper suggests security architecture for the better mobile office security and presents required procedures and the analysis of the expected security enhancement.

An Energy Efficient Reliability Scheme for Event Driven Service in Wireless Sensor Actuator Networks

Seungcheon Kim

Wireless sensor network has been evolving to wireless sensor actuator networks (WSAN), which is supposed to provide more dynamic services based on events from sensor nodes. WSANs require event reliability to support more accurate services. The optimum number of event notification messages from sensor nodes is the prerequisite for the further service reliability in WSANs. In this paper, we provide the analysis about how the number of event notification affects the energy consumption of actuator node in wireless sensor actuator networks.
