A Research on Context-aware Digital Signage using a Kinect

본 논문에서는 제4의 스크린 미디어로 불리며 급성장 중인 디지털 사이니지에 적용할 수 있는 키넥트 센서기반의 상황인지기술을 연구하였다. 디지털 사이니지에 필요한 상황인지기능을 분류하고, 디지털 사이니지 제어를 위한 비접촉 인터페이스를 제공하고, 상황에 맞는 콘텐츠를 능동적으로 제공할 수 있는 상황인지형 디지털 사이니지 플랫폼을 개발하였다. 기본적인 상황인지기능으로는 사용자 인원수, 제스처, 음성, 소리방향 등이 연구되었고, 향후 고급 상황인지기능을 연구할 계획이다. 본 연구에서 개발된 플랫폼은 일반적인 상황인지형 디지털 사이니지 개발시 참고 모델이 될 수 있을 것이다. 【In this paper, context-aware technologies using a Kinect sensor for a digital signage which is increasingly growing as the 4th screen media is presented. Generalized context-aware functions for a digital signage were studied and a context-aware digital signage platform was developed. It can support a natural user interface for controlling a digital signage and actively provide contents adapted to its context. As a basic context, users gesture and voice, the number of users, sound direction were considered. In the future, the advanced functions such as age, gender will be studied. The implemented platform could be a good reference model when developing a general context-aware digital signage.】

A Research on Personalized Mobile Advertising Service using the Linkage between Digital Signage and Smartphones

This paper proposes a new personalized mobile advertising service using a smartphone connected with a digital signage which is increasingly common for out-of-home advertising. The advertising contents can be transferred with their metadata to a digital signage. Then, the signage delivers only metadata to smartphones in close proximity of it. Based on the user`s preference, an application on a smartphone stores advertising metadata and publishes a personalized advertising e-catalog automatically. A smartphone user can browse, edit and share it with friends. In the view of extension of the reach of the advertising contents of various N-Screen devices including a digital signage and a smart TV to a smartphone and supplying personalized advertising data, this advertising model will be very beneficial and commercialized in the near future.

Development of a Lane Departure Warning Application on a Smartphone

The purpose of this research is to develop and optimize a lane departure warning application based on a smartphone which can be applicable as a new platform for various mobile information applications. Recently, a lane detection warning system which is a representative application among safe driving assistant solutions is being commercialized. Due to the necessity of powerful embedded hardware platform and its price, its market is still not growing. In this research, it is proposed to develop and optimize a lane departure warning application on iPhone 3GS. OpenCV is used for efficient image processing, and for lane detection a heuristic algorithm based on Hough Transform is proposed. The application was developed under Macintosh PC platform with Xcode 3.2.4 development tools, downloaded to the iPhone and has been tested on the real paved road. The experimental result has shown that the detection ratio of the straight lane was over 90% and the processing speed was 1.52fps. For the enhancement of the speed, a few optimization methods were introduced and the fastest speed was 3.84fps. Through the improvement of lane detection algorithm, additional optimization works and the adoption of a new powerful platform, it will be successfully commercialized on smartphone application market.

Edge Security System for Factory Automation Devices

The conventional network security solutions for manufacturing or factory automation devices are concentrated on protecting the internal networks from the attacks of external networks. Recently, however, so called Day-zero attacks are increased; the threat from internal devices such as notebooks, USB devices are as critical as attacks from external networks. Thus a new security solution is needed to protect manufacturing devices from both external and internal threat. To this purpose, we propose an edge-security system to provide cost effective, integrated, and simple end-point security solution specialized for automated manufacturing devices, which may avoid the shortcomings of NAC.

Stability Analysis of UH-60 Helicopter with External Store

This paper presents the stability analysis of UH-60 helicopter with external store such like chaff/flare dispenser. An external store can affect the natural frequency of the aircraft and induce the resonance, which cause the failure of structures. In this paper, therefore, Rayleigh method is used to investigate the resonance with aircraft and external store, and transmission formula is used to determine the vibration load. Structural analysis with local modeling method are performed to present the robust design of aircraft with external store. The ground and flight test are also done to verify the stability of the aircraft.

An Analysis on RAW Image File of DLSR Camera and Development of a RAW Image Viewer for an Embedded Device

This research is focused on an analysis on the structure of RAW image file and the development of a RAW image file viewer for an embedded device. Recently, several RAW image file formats are being used for saving and displaying the images created by various DSLR cameras, and the necessity of handing RAW images in mobile multimedia devices is increasing. For the development of RAW image decoding/encoding library applicable to WinCE-based embedded devices viewer, an analysis of RAW image file formats, such as CRW, CR2, PEF, NEF, MRW, have been performed because their formats are not released in public. By using the library, the analysis software which can extract RAW image data, 2~3 JPEG image files and other informations such as the specification of a camera and various photographic parameters from RAW image files, were developped and a RAW image file viewer which can run in WinCE-based embedded devices. The experimental result has shown that the viewer could encode and decode RAW image files successfully and it took approximately 10secs to load them to the screen in S3C6410 based embedded platform. The outcomes of this research cloud be a good information and solution to multimedia application developers.
