Investigation of Sound Absorption and Impedance Ratio of SBR/HIPS Polymer Blends

Ebru Uluğ; Münir Taşdemir; Sezgin Ersoy

A sound absorption material composed of styrene butadiene rubber and high impact polystyrene blend has been developed. With the increased amount of HIPS in SBR/HIPS polymer blends, hardness and Izod impact strength values of the resultant material increased. Sound-absorbing characteristics of SBR/HIPS polymer blends were investigated in the impedance tube, according to transfer function method. The sound absorption coefficients are generally above 0.2 with the maximum of 0.5. It reveals that soft blends have good sound absorption ability in 4000 Hz frequency range. For all groups the least sound absorption rate was seen in the area of 315 Hz at the rate of 0.01. With the increase of frequency for all groups impedance ratio decreased. With addition of SBR rubber to the HIPS, the adhesion and distribution of the present phases were considerably enhanced as well.

Effects of HIPS on the Sound Absorption and Impedance Ratio of SEBS/HIPS/CaCO3 Polymer Composites

Münir Taşdemir; Sezgin Ersoy; Ebru Uluğ

A sound absorption material composed of styrene ethylene butadiene styrene, high impact polystyrene and CaCO3 has been developed. Its sound absorbing characteristic was investigated in the impedance tube, according to transfer function method. Measurements show that HIPS ratios have effect on the absorption performance of the blend because of their microstructures and features. The structure and properties of the blend is characterized using a scanning electron microscopy (SEM). Furthermore, styrene ethylene butadiene styrene and high impact polystyrene polymer blend was subjected to examinations to obtain their hardness and Izod impact strength. When the sound absorption characteristics of the materials are examined, a unsteady behaviour is observed up to the level of 1600 Hz. It is determined that sound absorption characteristics of all materials increase after this point. A high and steady behaviour is observed, particularly after 4800 Hz.

The Methods Used in the Automotive Production: Hemming Operations Planning

Sezgin Ersoy; Ishak Ertugrul; Ebuzer Aygul

Hemming is a method used to combine the metal-based parts in automotive manufacturing. Generally, this method is using as an assembly method for closures as doors, hoods, tailgates and trunk lids in automotive bodies. A compound flanging and hemming die is mounted on a carriage for horizontal movement into and out of alignment with the anvil for successive formation of a flange and impacting the flange into a finished hem. In this work aim is explain to Hemming methods and devices and their planning for manufacturing.

Measurement of noise level in the fair area

Ebuzer Aygul; Ishak Ertugrul; Sezgin Ersoy

The noise causes many problems and damage on human health. There is enough scientific evidence that noise exposure can induce hearing impairment, hypertension and ischemic heart disease, annoyance, sleep disturbance. Especially in case of long-term exposure to noise, the noise can cause permanent illnesses. People are mostly exposed to noise in work areas and life environments. The effects of noise on human health are increasing rapidly. In this study, real-time noise values were measured in the fair area. The measured noise values exceeded the international noise values. The results of this measurement show that as long as experts do not take precautions, people working in fair are at risk of constant noise.

Vortex with the Formation of Electricity Generation and System Modelling

Sezgin Ersoy

Water resources are one of the natural sources for producing electricity on earth. Hydroelectric power plants are constructed for producing electricity through these resources. These power plants convert potential energy of the water to kinetic energy by means of using their turbines in order to produce electricity. Water flowing through the wings of these turbines causes it to rotate hence generates electricity. Our goal is to use the same amount of water to generate a vortex, in other words allow flow of water so that constant force is applied at each wing and thus increase the rotation force. Our system is a prototype of a hydroelectric power plant but the rotation of the turbine is designed in a way to allow vortex generation.

Electrical Measurements and Analyses with Data Acquisition Devices (DAS) of Heating and Cooling Capacities of the Intercity Coaches

Ozgur Yilmaz; Reşit Erçetin; T. Çetin Akıncı; Sezgin Ersoy

Predominantly coaches are preferred for intercity passenger transportation in our country. Vehicles are supposed to meet the passengers’ expectations in terms of safety, comfort and health during journey. Some features such as an internal environment that has an adequate and balanced temperature level is one of the essentials of the features affecting passenger comfort directly. To provide these, various coach manufacturer firms are continuing to make many trials and test studies at design stage. For that purpose, the vehicle-heating and cooling capacities of the intercity coaches were analyzed and examined in the scope of this study, by means of the thermometers and data acquisition systems (DAS). The thermal measurements related the subject were made on the intercity coaches at the Development & Test Center of a intercity coaches producer firm. The measurement results obtained from the experimental studies were examined and in consequence of the assessment of these data, implementation of the optimum resolutions was recommended in terms of passenger health and comfort.
