The Effects of Oral Function Improving Exercise on the UWS, Oral function and OHIP in Elderly

Purpose: The purpose of this study was to investigate the effects of oral exercise on oral function and quality of life among community-dwelling elders. Methods: This was a quasi-experimental study. Sixty four participants were recruited from the dental clinic of a public health center in G City, Gyeonggi-do. Thirty one participants were assigned to the experimental group and 33 to the control group. Participants in the experimental group performed oral exercise once a week for a period of three months. Validity & Reliability Test of a Life Respect Instrument for Korean Elementary School Students

Purpose: The purpose of this study was to test the validity and reliability of a life respect instrument for elementary school students. Method: The study was conducted as follows: identification of the tentative content domains, items generation, test of content validity, and data collecting with a preliminary questionnaire. Descriptive statistics, factor analysis, Cronbach`s alpha, Guttman split-half, and Pearson correlation coefficients were used to analyze the data. Results: Two factors were extracted through factor analysis: `Value about life respect`, and `Attitude about life respect.` These factors explained 58.82% of all factors. A total of 16 items belonging to 2 domains were generated. Cronbach`s alpha and Guttman split-half coefficient were .82, and .84 respectively. Conclusion: The life respect instrument modified in this study will be useful for evaluating the effect of life respect education for elementary school students.

Development and Evaluation of a Finding Meaning in Life CD Program for Life-esteemed Education of Older School-age Children

Purpose: The purpose of this study was to develop a finding meaning in life CD program about life-esteemed education and to identify the effect of the program. Methods: The life-esteemed education philosophy and the concepts of logotherapy were applied as a theoretical framework for this program. This program was developed through the process of planning, designing, developing, and evaluating with a content validity test. To identify the effect of the program, one experimental group design was applied to 54 students. Data were collected before the program started and one week and five weeks after the program finished. Results: The program was developed based on the students` needs and evaluation of the CD`s content and consists of five periods: Dinosaur Park of Promise, Hill of Fragrance, Garden of Love, Forest of Acceptance, and My Lake. Each post-test score of knowledge, attitude, and practice on meaning of life was significantly higher than pretest scores. Conclusion: This program can be effective for life-esteemed education in elementary school students. Moreover, it is encouraged that the program will be utilized in more life-esteemed education for elementary school students.

Comparative study of Needs about First Aid Education between Elementary school students & Middle school students

Abstract The purpose of this study was to provide basic data in order develop first aid education programs for elementary & middle school students. The data were collected 1203 elementary school students and middle school students using self-administered questionnaire. The results showed : In the mean score of 11 categories, 「poisoning」was high(2.76±.49). There was significant difference in the needs of first aid education according to subjects gender(t=-7.618, p=.000), judgement ability of emergency situation(F=3.336, p=.036), and education needs for emergency situation or not(t=6.509, p=.000). It is necessary to develop effective first aid education program for elementary & middle school students according to their needs. Development of Guidebook for Teachers about Coping Behavior Education to Emergency Situations for Elementary School Students

Purpose: The purpose of this study was to develop a guidebook for teachers about coping behavior education in emergency situations for elementary school students. Method: Dick and Carey`s teaching model (1996) and Keller`s ARCS theory (1985) was applied to develop this guidebook. Results: The contents consist of subjects, reference materials for teachers, a case study, and worksheets for students. The contents of the 5 units are as follows: 1)Identifying a dangerous situation around the school area and in school, 2)Coping tips in dangerous situations that can occur at school, 3)Prevention and coping method of sexual violence, 4)Coping method for natural disasters, and 5)First aid in emergency situations. The presented case study was a real case scenario and the worksheets contained various activities initiated by students. Conclusions: This guidebook can be an effective tool in coping education classes for emergency situations at elementary schools. The goal of the guideline book is reach as many elementary schools as possible.
