Abstract For the practical use of ion beam deposition (IBD), the deceleration characteristics of Ar+ ion beams of the order of mA and of 10 kV were investigated by using an electrostatic field of a flat deposition electrode. The experiments were carried out by means of measurement of the electrode currents of a deceleration unit settled in an electromagnetic isotope separator and by photographic observation of the ion beams. A preliminary Si deposition was attempted and a metallic film appearance was obtained on an Al2O3 substrate.

Contamination of radioactive nuclides on metallic copper surface was studied using oxygen-free sulfuric acid solution containing fission products. Experiments for the influences of various factors such as acidity of the solutions, co-existence of heavy metal ions, and cation surfaceactive agents, and various treatments of copper surface were carried out. The radioactive contamination of metallic copper surface in non-corrosive solution was generally less than that in corrosive solution, and copper surface was contaminated selectively by some radioactive nuclides. The radioactive contamination of copper surface was extremely decreased by addition of heavy metal ions (Fe/sup 3+/ , Cr/sup 3+/) or cation surface-active agent into the solutions, and was also influenced by the condition of copper metal surface. Synopsis: Recently, the determination of oxygen in cast iron has been required and it is important to determine not only the total oxygen but the oxygen as each oxide. The non-metallic inclusion method such as the chlorine method, the electrolytic method, the hot nitric acid method etc . is the usual method for determining each oxide in cast iron but this method is tedious and not reliable. The authors studied on the fractional vacuum-fusion method and it was found that by using a tin-bath, FeO could be extracted at 1050°C, MnO at 1150°C, SiO2 at 1450°C and Al2O3 at 1750°C by this simple method. The same cast iron samples were analyzed bv the fractional vacuum-fusion method, the hot nitric acid method, the chlorine method and the electrolytic method. Successful results were obtained by the fractional vacuuni-fusion method in comnarison with the case of the non-metallic inclusion method.

1) Fe...
