Long-term loss stability of dispersion-shifted single-mode fibres exposed to hydrogen

Hydrogen-induced-losses due to the reaction at 4°C after 25 yr were estimated by chemical kinetics in dispersionshifted and standard fibres. The loss increases at 1.3 and 1.55μm were negligibly small in both fibres, although exposure to hydrogen at 1 atm was assumed.
