Abstract Synthesis of α-Cuparenone is described. The key step involved arephotorearrangement of α-halo arylketone (4) to 1-methyl-1-(p-tolyl)acetic acid (5) and extremely mild, essentially neutral, room temperature /3-aza-claisen reaction of N-allylamide (6).

Abstract A facile, mild, and efficient methodology for the ionic Diels–Alder reaction of acetals of α,β‐unsaturated ketones and aldehydes as dienophiles with various 1,3‐dienes employing MgBr2 as the Lewis acid catalyst to furnish corresponding Diels–Alder adducts at ambient temperature is described.

CF3SO3SiMe3-catalysed one-to-one exchange of oxathioacetals to carbonyl compounds in the presence of 4-nitrobenzaldehyde is performed efficiently at room temperature, the protocol developed provided selective and effective deprotection of oxathiolanes in the presence of thioacetals.
