At the beginning of 1980 the combination of high voltage technology and special field plate techniques allowed the integration of the first RGB video output amplifier ICs capable of withstanding supply voltages up to 200V. Further work has resulted in the development of a new integrated RGB video amplifier, the technological and electrical solutions of which are presented here.

Two among many objectives that influ¿ence most of TV manufacturer choices are going to become the first in order of priority, they are: 1) utilization of very sophisticated multifunction IC in order to reduce to minimum calibrations, external components and assembling complexity 2) Reduction of total power consumption

Many of the integrated circuits for deflection utilized in monitors and video displays are TV application oriented. However, the monitor market is becoming more and more important, sufficiently so to justify the development of integrated circuits specifically aimed at satisfying the specific requirements of this field.

The system evolution in the monitor field leads to the development of suitable ICs with performances and characteristics which are mainly monitor oriented rather than TV oriented. The automatic frequency raster preset of the monitors in computerised and optical equipment leads to the adoption of digital to analog converters in order to set the different parameters, and consequently all the regulations must be DC compatible. High scanning frequency and low jitter are additional factors that characterize the quality and the resolution of the monitors. New circuit solutions on silicon, concerning the monitor field, are described. In a single IC, the use of TTL compatible synchro pulses, horizontal and vertical processing functions and vertical ramp generation are implemented.<<ETX>>

As the circuit complexity of modern TV receivers increases, the advantages of concentrating as many low signal functions as possible into one IC become more and more evident. These are functions which can all be realized using the same technology and they should be separated from the interface circuits which are capable of handling high power.
